GoVibe V6 announced! - Page 3

V6 looks to be one monster bargain. Great offering for only 80 bucks!!!

And for the faint of heart: That's going to be one cheeky little bugger.

Bugger!

I guess I could buy another portable amp...what the hell...

I didn't care much for the GV5, so maybe I should give the V6 a shot - maybe it'll be more my speed...

Does anyone know if the elpac wm080 would be compatible with the v6?
I have emailed Norm, because if I can use the Elpac from GV5
with it, it makes the purchase more attractive and more cost-effective because I found the Elpac made a huge difference in the GV5

The Elpac will not work with the V6, which, due to the op-amp used, can accept an absolute maximum of 12V from an external power supply.

But Norm maintains that the AD8397/AD825 op-amps employed by the V6 deliver more current with a 9.6V rechargeable than the V5 is able to muster with the Elpac!

planning on a purchase?

No, not for the time-being. I would still like to try the AD8620/8610 op-amps in my V5S. And I can always roll-in the AD8397/825 (of course, I need to find them first) to get a taste of the V6's capabilities.

The V6 is limited to a 12v power supply so the Elpac isn't compatible. However, selling an Elpac should be easy since they are in high demand.
I haven't finalized the V6 power supply, but it should end up in the $20 range as an option. The V6 has a built in battery charger, so there will also be the option of a 9.6v NiMH battery.
The new amp will be available the week of Feb. 25th. I may accept pre-orders once I get the options priced out.
In Norm's own words, in response to my email about the Elpac.

Much like the Xenos!

Ah, if all goes well, you can try the opamps in my Go-Vibe (non S) tomorrow at the meeting.

I was like a lot of the other guys (and gals) when I heard about the new V6, since I received my V5 two weeks ago. These things happen and I just don't know wheter my headphones will sound better with the new version. The newest isn't always the better. Depends on your taste, I guess. AND I like my V5 a lot with the AD8620/8610 opamps, connected to my DT770 and DT990's so I'm not going to upgrade to the V6 version. I'd rather safe some more money to put in a desktop amp. Depends a bit on the results at the meeting in Terneuzen.

I think I agree. I've tried AD8397 in my Xenos. With and without buffers. At different gains, 12 and 9V. I never really liked it. A bit grainy and congested. Maybe it's better implemented in GoVibe.
