Senn's HD 700's to be release in January 2008... - Page 3

I for one hope that it will NOT be a planar design -- I haven't heard satisfying planar headphones so far (magnet bars in front of the membrane is not what sound waves like). In any event I'm optimistic that the HD 700 will be listenable, after all it's from Sennheiser. And of course I'm a bit excited. But more than a year until then...

I guess when the flagship headphone isn't cutting it, the only thing that can be done is to hope that a future phone will come and break it out of mediocrity

I just hope I won't have to completely change up my rig to create the so called "synergy" (that is if the phones are that extraordinary). Definitely interested to listen to these...can't wait

Haha.. it doesn't take much to get the ball rolling here.

Btw. why upgrade when you think your systems are perfect as they are...i.e. if not satisfied, buy something else now? It doesn't seem like many people give a **** about sound and music, but it's more like a wallet competition. Ay?

To the OP: Why did he tell you about the HD700? Are you sure it wasn't his attempt that failed, to make you pre-order and keep an eye on their shop?

if they ARE a planar design they will probably be fairly power hungry- and some people don't have high enough gain on their amps to drive them. shouldn't be a problem for people with decent amps..

Planar Design

What are the main differences between a dynamic headphone and one using a planar design. And where in that spectrum would an electrostatic headphone fall. Is a planar design kind of in the middle of the other two. My understanding of them was that they were like electrostatics but with coils. But I'm not very sure.

Thanks

Curious to listen to them and see their freq. response graph also. But am not eager to drop the cash. Would have to hear it and like it better than the 650 first.

Woah, thought you guys would have known these things already! I'll ask him more next time I go out there.

Planar (also called orthodynamic, isodynamic or magnetostatic) transducers consist of a thin stretched plastic membrane -- like electrostats -- with a sort of voice-coil (conductor strips) printed on it or etched out of it and magnet bars behind and (often) in front of it. So the foil membrane is driven passably uniformly on its whole surface by electromagnetic force. They're in fact dynamic drivers, too.

it would have to be called HD701, or they are admitting their inferiority

Will they sound more like dynamic headphones or electrostatic. I guess that is what I am trying to find out. I mean, are the HD700s - if Planar - going to be like a mini (or poor man's) baby Orpheus.

Hmmm ... if the HD580s are already only $125, I assume by next January they should be cheaper than SR80s?

Seriously, I can understand an approximate season and even month, but who forecasts a release day a year in advance?

meh

maybe they will have built in sunglasses

My buddy at who happens to work for Sennheiser R&D said the HD700s will have a knob to switch b/t closed to open. It will also have the ear cushions made of tempurpedic material to custom mold onto your head.

The cables will be taken from Chuck Norris's veins and arteries (right and left channel respectively), to ensure the ut-most clarity and least sound degredation.

My buddy works at Sennheiser Canada and says that they will be released in January 20008, not 2008. But the good news is that they will have a special diaphragm damping mechamism made from spider webs, as well as a remote control for automatic veil and bass hump level but no option to eliminate it. Damn.
