Well "my source" tells me Sennheiser was planning to re-release the HE60 and HE90 in January '08, but AKG lured away Senn's original HE60/90 engineers and will be releasing AKG's own electrostats around December '08 for Christmas.

Ok, I mean the current headphones on the market just now.

Sure they could do a new Orpheus and selling it for 15000$. But that wasn't what I meant.

Just to speculater further. I think Senn will have develop a new diagram for their new flagship. They have been refining the HD-580's since the early 1990's. It is time for a total new design really.

What HAS changed, post-HD650, is the explosion of dedicated headphone amps, cables and tweaks, where the overall (perceived) performance of this phone will ultimately depend on the final delivery, with after-market products helping drive that.

NOT saying Senn will market any, but hopefully they will deliver better stock cable, and further extensions will be considered in their final product offering, not just the after market responding to a MONOLITHIC design.

Finally, as a head-fi sponsor, it would be nice, after we have created ALL their worldwide buzz, for them to offer the HD7xx first to head-fiers en masse, either in release or in pre-production beta.
Wouldn't it be neat if Senn makes a headamp for the upcoming HD700? Seems to me like they would have the know-how (think HE90) and the motivation to (who here wouldn't be tempted to try a senn amp?).

[or I should say I miss listening to them; they are sitting in the closet right now without an amp to bring them to life]
Really? man, I guess I really don't know what I'm missing...Right now, I still kinda prefer listening to my higher impendance recabled 600s than my 225s (I will have to re-evaluate once I convert the 225s to circumaurals and recable or once I get an amp (also open to suggestions), btw, any recabling suggestions for the grados?)

That would be very cool on their part!!!

It feels sad to be thus ignored.

i can't tell between sarcasm and seriousness in this thread anymore... is AKG really releasing an electrostat within the next 2 years?

Unfortunately, both Sennhesier and AKG have increasingly become more sensitive to the bottom line and what would sell in massive numbers, not state-of-art, low-quantity items.

If Stax can stay in business making electrostats, why can't Senn or AKG keep a darn electrostat in their lineup? That reminds me. Why can't Stax re-design the OII to be a bit more neutral?

what Senn should do is make lighter diaphragms like what AKG is doing, for better resolution and airiness. they should try to improve upon the K701s rather than the HD650. They need to focus more on comfort, and make their headphones bigger and rounder just like AKG.

*Sigh*

I see way too many of these rumor speculation threads. I practically think we should create a new forum for intrigue and FOTMs... but that's just me.

If it were to come out in Jan. 2008 it would be rather pleasant. But I'm sure there would be more credible leaks than "My friend in Sennheiser..." and "I called the support department." If it were to be out in early 2008 I'd think that the biggest top resellers of them might know (for example, Tyll at Headroom). I think in a much, much earlier thread he did state that there might be something in the pipeline, but he wasn't able to give a firm date or even if there was truly something in the works. NDA maybe, or possibly because there isn't one.

Do you have a more credible source? Because if you do I'm sure many of us would love to hear about it. Look, call it flavor of the month, call it whatever you want, but like you said its only speculation - choose what or what not to believe. Second of all, even if big resellers like Headroom did know about it, they'd have no right to tell us; I'm sure they'd have some sort of agreement with Sennheiser over how much information they're allowed to disclose.

my speculation being that senn is now catering to the iPod market, they will try to make it easier to drive. maybe lower impedance and heavier. or maybe the HD700 would be an IEM.
