Power Plant Premier first impressions

I have 242-243 input voltage, 233 output voltage.
I'm getting 1.7% input THD and 0.4% output THD. I'm using MW.
Plugging Harvester into wall didn't lower the input THD.

I'm just testing the Premier now with worse cables. I put the Premier between wall and Ultimate Outlet + P300 Power Plant. I added a Nordost Vishnu power cord to connect the two. The Vishnu hadn't been used for almost a year. I'm using Nordost Valhalla in my whole system.


Added Premier + worse cable into the signal path.

First impressions: Dull, lifeless, muddy, lack of transparency, loss of dynamics, there is something in front of the music, background isn't black anymore, it sounds messed up. Transients sound incomplete, blackness in between transients is lacking badly. Muddiness is unbearable, I just want to turn it off.

I didn't know Vishnu was this bad.

Transports

Another problem is that Premier and Vishnu don't have ERS Paper. I'm hearing the same open and dull sound as I heard when my Valhalla didn't have ERS Paper, but this time I'm also hearing the lifeless Vishnu haze in front of the music. The sound is messed up twice.
I restored my system and it sounded much better. Adding an extra power conditioner doesn't work if the AC noise is already very low. It's just going to reduce dynamics. The system is more open to RFI/EMI as well.



Transports

My next step was trying Premier only for my Cary transport. The Cary was originally plugged with Valhalla into P300 Power Plant (MWave4) + cheap internal wiring + output transformer. The signal path was very long so I used a Vishnu to ground the Cary to my Ultimate Outlet which is closer to the wall, it sounded better than using the cheap ground wires inside the P300.

I plugged the Premier (MWave1) to the wall with Vishnu. I plugged the Cary into Premier with Valhalla and kept the separate Vishnu ground. It sounded about the same as Cary plugged into P300, maybe little better.
Then I removed the Vishnu grounding and connected the Valhalla ground conductor, Cary was now grounded into Premier instead of Ultimate Outlet. For some reason it sounded little more transparent afterwards. Cary now sounds better than it did when it was plugged into P300. There is more low-level detail.

My computer was originally plugged into Ultimate Outlet with Valhalla. I plugged it into Premier and heard a little more low-level detail but it was much smoother.

But the problem with both transports is that the low-level detail is masked by the muddy Vishnu power cord. There should be much more detail than that. I'm not impressed at all. There is more detail and it's smoother, but it doesn't sound transparent because Premier isn't plugged into wall with Valhalla.

Valhalla

I took away my computer's Valhalla and used it to plug Premier into the wall. I turned on my Cary and all the problems were gone!!! Amazing blackness and transparency, I'm inside the recording again. Valhalla is 1 million times better than Vishnu! This is the opposite of placebo, the difference is that huge!

OMG. I don't know what to say.

Premier is worthy!

I plugged my LCD into Premier with Statement power cord. I didn't see a difference. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for in image quality.

But for my Cary transport the improvement is crazy. Bass sounds like never before. The heaviness and speed gave me a headache, that's a good sign! I'm impressed of the speed!

Premier + P300 = Deep

I was wrong, problem was Vishnu!


I tried it again, but this time I threw away the Vishnu and used Valhalla for everything.

I plugged P300 Power Plant and Cary into Premier. I never expected an improvement like this! I'm hearing very quiet details everywhere, they are so subtle I can't hear them properly. I can just hear there are loads of very quiet stuff going on. It's very deep!

A month ago my system sounded very thin which gave the illusion that the decay continued forever, but after I plugged a Noise Harvester into the wall the body increased and it sounded like the decay was cut off too early. But now when Premier is powering P300 Power Plant I don't hear the decay getting cut off anymore. In every track I hear new low-level sounds I never heard before, I didn't even know there was anything there!

I still have the Ultimate Outlet between P300 and Premier (cables not long enough). I'm hearing some reduced dynamics and speed from it, little less highs and lows. But the improvement in low-level detail is worth it. Maybe removing it will increase clarity of the quiet sounds...
