Getting more from your single flange: coming from um1 user

i think ppl have posted this before but i'll just bring it up again.

i'm using single flange tips on my um 1 (from my jvc fx55 (canalphone tips) and also turning shure tri flange into one large flange ( i cut off the top two since my ear hole is big)) i rotate between the two but i find with this mod, it works better with the shure single flange.

I used to hate what the shure flange did to the um1, bringing a colder sound and boosted the treble revealing the weakness of the um1 but the mod has made me think otherwise.

the idea here is to fill the space from the outer tube to the tip part. i basically took a large comply and cut a small piece from it, enough to fit under the tip. you don't want too much because it will make the fit too large.

I then took out the black rubber holding it together in the middle. this will make the foam more stretchable, and you can then wrap it under your single flange that you use. This is what i think the new shure black foamies sound like (theory wise), a rubber tip with foamie material to fill the cavity surrounding the tube from the tip. trying to combine the best of both worlds.

the difference in sound is very noticeable, the bass on my um 1 is so much more tighter, instrument seperation is improved, and the vocals in songs have more depth. treble is not as splashy as before.

i think the change is due more to the isolation it brings. But i am certainly pleased with this tweak. i am also sure that this will work on other iems

if you don't have complys to play around with, i also tried wrapping pieces of foam around the tube (cutting thin pieces of foam and putting a small piece of blu sticky tak on each side). the comply worked much better tho.
you can also try cutting up ear plugs or something, the main thing is to make a more "solid" tip. If you feel the isolation has increased, you kno its workin.

I only cut off the bottom part of the flange myself for use with the UM2 and E4. Just about the right length, especially for keeping the E4 in

I don't need to do what you're describing, but pics? Can't make sense of what you're saying sorry
