That's just a transient thing.

That's probably a transient, neurological phenomenon that a lot of people experience. It has happened to me, too. I have some degree of ringing in the ears, but thank goodness it is not severe. You do notice this more at night, though.

Thanks for this thread. I was diagnosed with tinnitus about a year ago. Doc found a 4kHz flat spot in my right ear. He thinks that I got it from riding my motorcycle. Yes, loud pipes save lives. Yes, loud pipes and 80 mph wind noise 2x daily can cause tinnitus.

Young dudes: Protect those fargin' ears!

Listening to music is fine. At night when I try to fall asleep, the ringing is annoying. I tell myself that it's an old friend...

I hope that I can find that program for Mac.

2 questions,

1)does it work ?

2) how good do your headphones have to be ? becuase i have atrios, but my gramps in isreal has supermarket headphones, my brother can probobly let him use his Audio Technicas CK5 canalphones, but those are also quite low in the food chain,

Awesome link! I have tinnitus (sports concussion + going to loud concerts = bad!) and am going to try it out... it also seems like a really good way to relax while at the computer.

Ears are a fascinating subject. For example, did you know that your ears actually produce sound? Amazing things they are, but onto the matter at hand.
Tinnitus can be caused by many things. There is tinnitus that is caused by hearing damage as well as tinnitus that is created within the brain. The hearing damage one is not reversible (to my knowledge), but it can be moderated by treatments such as the audio stuff done here is Australia. The other kind is basically a way of your brain telling you something is wrong (a bit like a headache). It could be because of stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, caffeine... a whole stack of things. At least this form of tinnitus can be reversed.

My biggest complaint is most bars/clubs where I live play music WAY too loud. Unfortunately it is hard to get out these days without coming home with your ears ringing. Oh well, I will have to enjoy my HP's while I can still hear them.

Heyy... this is nice!

I think a LOT more people would have tinnitus than realise it. But most would just have it so such a low level that it doesn't bother them.

I get it occasionally. I had MANY middle ear infections as a kid, and even when I'm not sick, I can make my right ear drum click simply by a small gesture like blinking an eye or similar. Kinda weird. Apparently my eardrums look like a mess. And I am terrible in a busy situation or with loud humming (eg loud AC systems or crowded bars), BUT every time I've been to a audiologist I've tested very well. *shrug* I'm just glad it doesn't affect every day life or music.

lol... half the bug ones like "cicada", "crickets" or "country road" sound like my normal background in Australia during summer

I think my gf will REALLY appreciate "night surf" though! thanks.

Edit: BTW, this is a REALLY useful tool for ambient noise to help you get to sleep too. LOVE IT.

This is pretty good.  Thanks for this, but the original link no longer works; I had to google it to download.

Anyone know anything about the T-Gone website and what they do, how that stuff works? http://www.t-gone.com/ringing-in-the-ear.htm

I am interested in trying anything.
