x3. It's a great system for me, as it's very easy to figure out which CD is missing simply from the location of the empty space. Unfortunately, using CD racks means that every time I get a new CD I have to move everything down a space - I now dread buying anything by an artist whose name begins with a letter before 'M'...

I rip all my music into Apple Lossless, and use iTunes to organize them.

WOW lionel marechal, awesome walkthrough! I may follow your method once I get to ripping all those hundreds of 1980 classical CDs lying around the house

Thanks!

Historically (and still) rip all to MP3 and use MPEG Audio Collection. Supplement this with burning everything I have (movies/music/programs/files/everything) to DVD (for backup) and cataloging with VisualCD.

I use CATraxx.

Nice program that links to free databases for cover pictures and track listings for each entry. It does take some time for the program to read each CD if you have a large collection. I at one time had mine all up to date but lost the entire thing with a hard drive crash. The data for the program was not on my must have list so I did not back it up.

Thread Starter

I started this thread back in 01/07 and it died then too. but I thought I'd revise it because the Music Collector software has become more sophisticated and now has features specifically for cataloging classical music. There's also a new optional feature called "Connect" that allows you to keep your CD collection listed on line. See my signature for an example.  I think this is a great product, and why, with all the people on Head-Fi with large music collections, you don't hear about more people using this software?
