.................. of which 24 have been pink noise burn in at 85 db per earpiece. These phones scared me when I first plugged them in - sooooo bright and top end fizzy. Now after this burn in I am convinced at last that burn in does work - the top end is sooo sweet now. I have just listened to Mozart's String Quartet K590 'Prussian Nr 3' played by Eder Quartet on Naxos - I use this piece for comparisons and am very familiar with it. These DT880s are superb in out-of-head frontal soundstage and the extended but so sweet treble is giving my K701 phones real concern. The ability to separate the instruments is better on the 880 than the 701 - the overall tonal balance of the 880 brings out the sound of the wood in the instruments superbly. I will continue with pink noise burn for 150 hours and make a much more detailed comparison with the K701 (400 hours burn in) at the end. So far I get the feeling that the DT880 might be a better phone for me than the K701 - I would never have believed that I would be saying this. By the way - the DT880 is a bit harder to drive than the K701 on my HA-2 MkII SE.
