That was my point, typical price ratios in speaker rigs (where the traditional thought is to spend most on the speakers themselves) just don't apply with headphones. Even if you go into the +$1k cans, you'll still have a "bad" headphone/amp spending ratio.

K-701s

I have some problems getting a lot of volume out of the K-701s with 6SN7 output tubes, but this is only in my bad ear that is almost 20dB down. No wonder! Otherwise, no one has had a probelm with these phones and the MPX3 SLAM SE.

But I do plan to buy another pair of higher impedance headphones: HD580s or DT-880s The HD650 sounds great to me for the first 10 minutes and then, after that, is just too euphoric for me. But they do play loud! By the way, the ability of the SP amps to drive higher impedance headphones to higher levels is due to the circuit, not the headphones AND this characteristic is NOT common to all headamps. If your headamp has an output transformer, the impedance of the headphones doesn't change the volume.

Thats a good question. I will answer yes. I have HD600/HD650 with a ballanced cable made by singlepower yes thats right made by Mikhail and it is cool. I also have a set of Headfiled K340s under $600 used from a friend.

They both sound much improved to me in every way with the new amp.

I feel the headphone is a part of the overall systen like an engine you can put a Holley Dominator (right out of the box) on a good drag racing small block chevy or an 800 CID big block. On the small block you may have 750 horse power but with the same carb. on the 800CID motor you can have well over 1000 horse power with an out of the box carb. I am not sure what a Holley dominator goes for now but under $700.00 would be my guess and the motor would be well over $50,000

Back to the original question where should I go from here! There are no headphones made right now that are high end. And the older say R10 go for like $4500.

perhaps you meant to say no high end dynamic cans are currently made - although owners of, say an AT w5000 or grado rs-1s or gs1ks might disagree. certainly stax has high end electrostats currently in production. just because akg k1000s, senn he60s & 90s, sony r-10s, AT L3000s, grado ps-1s or hp1000s etc etc are out of production, doesn't mean there are no high end models currently produced, eh?

Let me say you are right!

I was mostly thinking of this post stating that:..

I guess I was also asking what else is available for my Dynamic amp. I have had the RS-1s/GS-1000 Not the sound I was after. I am open to some suggestions thow.

RS-1 sound like speakers sitting on your ears, not in my opinion being on stage.
The RS-1 also hurt my ear drums but sound cool with portable stuff or portable amps.

GS-1000 boomey Bass and shrill highs.

HD 650 almost perfect Ballanced and with my new singlepower cable. The soundstage is big it is a little on the dark side but very close to my ears to what I think sounds right to my ears.

K340 Modded by Headfiled Have a huge soundstage, a great headphone complaments the HD 650 by being slightly on the bright side.

I am going to NY to the meet next month to try some others.
