maybe more towards blues-rock than pure blues, but have you tried
Tinsley Ellis
Gary Moore
Buddy Guy

these are the ones that came immediately to my head, there are just way too many to consider,
it is hurting my brain

Albert King
Freddie King
James Cotton
Paul Persone
RL Burnside
Uschi Wiese
and on

It's not so much the artist's I need help with. I am looking for specific cd's that would be considered a must have due to the recording quality.

I am very much a Blues Buff just looking to add some great sounding cd's to my collection!

Well, I can't really speak for them, but Mapleshade recordings are considered "audiophile" as well as the discs from Audioquest. I don't have any Mapleshade, but the Audioquest's I've got all sound very nice. I've also enjoyed the sound of Junior Well's Telarc releases, though you might get differing opinions on either the label or the music (I happen to love Junior's voice as well as funky, James Brown style soul, which these releases lean toward).

Give It Up To Love is a masterpiece. The compilation disc/ sacd Soul Survivor is very good too.

Yes I have Might Sam Give it up to Love XRCD it is very good.

I will have to check out soul survivor and some of his others.

A great Indie label is CD Baby.

I recommend Becky Barsdale-Real Live .... incredibly real sounding disc, Melanie Mason-Bendin The Blues and both the Albert Cummings discs. Check out Ruthie Foster who has some excellent acoustic blues discs. Just start clicking and you can sample a massive amount of artists and titles.

I've found most of the stuff on Telarc is pretty well done. A few I'd recommend as being excellent blues and good recording quality:

Whiskey Story - Jimmy Thackery and Tab Benoit -a fav of mine
Homesick for the Road - Tab Benoit/Debbie Davies/Kenny Neal
Healing Time - Ronnie Earl
Hell or High Water - Tinsley Ellis
Slammin' on the West Side - Luther Johnson
Lettin' Go - Son Seals
Healin' Ground - Jimmy Thackery - another fav

Mighty Sam McClain has been mentioned but he has some good Telarc stuff.

Also check out Maria Muldaur - Meet Me Where They Play the Blues and Deborah Coleman - What About Love
