My K1000 setup (pics) - Page 7

06289 is definitely warmer sounding than 11150, it also sports a more muscular bass response and slightly softened highs, 11150 with its brighter signature sounds more detailed, very good bass but not as punchy as 06289. On the ATM300 you can dial in dampening, switch this to position 2 and 11150 gains some warmth and a bit more kick to the bass without sacrificing detail. Position 1 (zero feedback) sharpens up 06289, it is still warmer than 11150 but you gain clearer highs and better sense of detail. The Air Tight ATM-300 is an amp for all flavours of the K1000 IMHO.
I place this rig on a par with the ES-1/HE90 in terms of enjoyability & musicality. Most importantly; switching from the ES-1/HE90 to the AT/K1000 I have zero sense of listening to a lowlier rig. Different but equal sums it up nicely for me

Sounds like the Air Tight ATM-300 is the ultimate amp with the K1000!??

I'm convinced of that...

I think that 300B SE is the key for K1000, the Cary is also a very good amp, but the Air Tight is the very best in the 300B class, just my two cents...

Agree! Yes, the older K1000 has a warmer sound, but not the same details and transparecy of the new series...

(Please Kane try some Mullard on the pre stage and rectifier...)

Nik, I would like to come to grips with the ATM300 in stock form first. In a month or so the great tube roll experiment will begin.
