You can try Ebay. I bought some Russian 6P14EP tubes there.

SPACECOYOTE QUOTE: all of the combos above sound good to me but the array I use now and may like the most is:
Russian "Reflector" 6P14P military stock & GE 12AX7 long plates

tbonner1 I have tried countless tube combos and I agree with SPACECOYOTE that the Russian Reflektor (I believe it is with a k for those who want to search) and the GE 12AX7 long plates is a great combo. Great detail, air and bass. It brings the Senn's alive.

COTDT Have you tried the above combo of the Russian Reflektor tubes with the GE's?

Both my ASL and Yarland amps sounded MUCH better with Electro Harmonix EL84's than with their stock chinese tubes. Did you try some EH tubes?
I just googled the EL84 tube, and found out that the NOS is 6BQ5: you can find RCA, Amperex, Sylvania on E-bay. Certainly worth trying a RCA or Sylvania: at least the Electro Harmonix tubes I've tried have sounded pretty cold and compressed.

I have tried Electro Harmonix EL84 with a few 12AX7, but it lacks the punch/emotion I can hear from the stock 4P14. What are the good 12AX7/EL84EH combo you guys think?

The Russian 6P14P (EB and EP) are absolutely the best EL84 variant I have found for the Doge 6210.
For about a week I had been using a pair of NOS (although I have my doubts) Mullard EL84's with the JJ/Tesla ECC83S (which is the near-replica of Telefunken ECC83S). Immedietly I noticed a decreased volume, but that does happen from time to time depending on the combo and not just from poor pin contact. The combo didn't sound bad at all but I didn't like having to turn the volume up to hear the same output I was used to with the Russian 6P14P and GE 12AX7 Lp's. So, after a week I thought maybe the Mullards were bunk and not allowing the JJ/Tesla's to perform optimally. I then tried EVERY pair of Mullard EL84s' I own with the same pair of JJ/Tesla's, and every time the same result, decent sound but low volume. I then tried an NOS pair of Bugle Boy 12AX7's with the Mullard EL84s, same result. At this point I was convinced that all my Mullards were swag and I had been ripped off, but once I calmed down I realized what Doc Art had said, or written, about good and bad combos; I have not yet tried the Mullards with the Sylvania 12AX7's, I have a couple of NIB pairs on the way. So before I jump off a bridge with my Mullards I will try them in every possible combo of 12AX7/ECC83/6BQ5 I have, including the EH and Ken Rad 12AX7's.
However, last night I was still ready to jump, so I just switched everything out and put in an entirely new combo: Russian 6P14PEP with the JJ/Tesla ECC83S gold pin. It sounds fantastic! Wether it sounds as good or better than the 6P14P & GE 12AX7 combo I have yet to discover. But Charles Mingus' "East Coasting" and Herbie Hankock's "Takin Off" sound pristine. When it comes to bass I like to hear the instrument and not just an overall increased presence of the low end, I like to hear the finger slide and slap off the acoustic bass' strings; I like to be able to separate the brass and woodwinds when they are all playing a chorus; you know, fruit-on-the-bottom, not low fat custard.
At this point, my preliminary amatuer conclusion is this, almost any pre-amp tube sounds good with the Russian "Reflector" 6P14P EB or EP (the EP is the military version with a little more plate voltage than the EB, but in a headphone amp application, like the Doge 6210, I find it hard to believe that anyone would be able to hear a difference). I'm going to give the current combo a week or so, and when my final batch of tubes arrive I will try all the combos I have yet to try, re-evaluating my pennultimate conclusions, and come up with what I hope be a modest amateur apendege to Doc Arts professional findings.

P.s. My statement at the beginning of the post above is only my opinion. I just find that those Russian 6P14P's are the best value around. Anyone experimenting with tube arrays, especially those of us using the Doge 6210 headphone amp, could only benefit from obtaining a few pairs (or quads!) to try. Anyone I have asked, except those who make a living selling vintage tubes, would agree that these Russian tubes are highly underrated. Furthermore I feel that they are going to become highly sought after as soon as they become harder to find (redundent statement, I know). Do you think fifty years ago people were saying, "Man, get these GE 12AX7's while you can!" ? Of course not, fifty years ago everyone thought that we would make it to space first, and now the best value in NOS/NIB tubes happen to be ex-Soviet made.
I just bought, off of eB@y, 24 (a dozen pairs) NOS/NIB Russian "Reflector" 6P14PEP, from the Ukraine, for $60 US!, with shipping $81; so, that's $2.50 a tube before shipping and $3.33 a tube after. That purchase was the best deal I found on those tubes. The batch I bought befor that, which were the EB model, cost more and were still worth it. Buy them now, while you can...
And, no, I have nothing to do with and am in no way associated with or related to anyone selling these tubes, I have nothing to gain by giving this advice, other than good will.

lacks punch? i'm using the stock Chinese EL84 and it's almost as punchy as a high end solid state! it makes my K701s just pound really hard. I love it!

I've tried the Russian 6P14P and while it is good, I slightly prefer the stock Chinese tube. The Ei ECC83 is amazing with it.

Just got the USPS notice, I am going to pick up the 4 Ruussian 6P14EP tomorrow. They came all the way from Ukraine and took nearly 4 weeks time.

I will be able to compare them to stock Chinese 6p14 soon.

So nobody likes the EH el84 with Doge?

Anyone else prefer the 600 ohm setting despite driving 60ohm headphones?

I have been leary to try any higer settings; my two sets of phones are both low impedence, Grado SR225 and AKG 701. I was under the impression that driving the phones at a higher impedence than is intended could damage the phones and/or the amp. What advantage have you found to running the 600 ohm setting on 60 ohm phones?

Did you get them from Alexer1 at Sovcom? I am awaiting an order from that seller.

For the K701s, the 600 ohm setting seems to give me better impedance matching, despite the headphone being 62 ohms.
