I always felt that the K601 was a bargain that was overshadowed by the K701, but the K612 is even nicer. wink.gif

Throw on some K702 pads and it tames the treble a bit... at the expense of some detail/imaging, of course. You also get spme slight bass imrovement, as well...

So, I've seen from different people:

The K612 is MORE detailed than the HD600.

The K612 is LESS detailed than the HD600.

Both can't be true folks. Which is it? I understand tonality differences and such will play differently to different people, but detail level should be a pretty objective thing.

Tonality would also privilege hearing detail in some genres over others, so people's listening habits could be the difference as well. smily_headphones1.gif

I haven't owned HD600 in a long time, but I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to those saying that the HD600 is more detailed. It's probably only a slight difference, they don't fall that far behind K701 and HD650 anyway, so there isn't enough room for a significant margin.

I think it's not easy to choose as far as detail goes between the two. I have both and for me the tonality difference is more pronounced. The k612 has a stronger treble so it 'seems' to have more detail sometimes.

Given the price difference though, I'd go more towards the K612 because the Senns are quite expensive nowadays.

Comparing the K601 and k612 is interesting. At first, you feel that differences are really not there until you hit a piece of music that kind of highlights what the K612 does well. The slightly toned down top and slight bass lift have really improved it imo.

I don't really feel the need for the bass to be lifted any more since it begins to sound too 'thick' and actually starts to veer more towards the Senn laid back sound which is great at high volume.

To me, the difference between the K601 and K612 is similar to hd600 and hd650.

Week number two and the K612 Pro's are breaking in quite nicely. The comfort is better than my past AkG  k701's and soooo much overall better sound. I do wish it came with a beefier cable though.

I ordered the K612 and sent them back. They just weren't for me. I probably need an HD600.

They just didn't do anything well imo. The build wasn't all that great either. I'm glad other people enjoy them, they just weren't for me.

very strange. may be they were not pairing well with your amp/dac? or may be that 2k spike was bothering you ? since not knowing the issue can't really tell you if hd600 gonna work out for you.

imho they have excellent build quality comparing with Sennheisers.

They seemed empty. There wasn't a whole lot of body. I didn't feel engaged. Really I just wanted something more laid back and flatter than my T90, but the performance difference was far too wide to be ignored. Not that I thought they could approach the T90 anyway, but I was expecting more at the price point.

Different rather than more...
The K612 far outdoes other reference headphones in their price range IMO.
Their category is reference though, not engagement.
