AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!! - Page 86

Nice, my fault then as when you mentioned Senn like and the HD650, I was the one to understand wrong of your thoughts. You just confirmed MY original assumptions that these all fall in the same ballpark of the HD600.

I am hoping a fellow friend of mine sends his HD600 so I can compare and confirm all of this for myself smily_headphones1.gif

Thanks, and I sure will report back soon as my K612 returns.

I have the K712 which is like a warmer Q701 and I find it's sound more bothersome than the K612 at times, especially when my ears are being sensitive. To the K712s credit, the sound has gotten less fatiguing over time with more use. I hope you enjoy the K612.

I got 'em about a week ago, and I have been enjoying them. They are marvelous! I do end up EQing the treble down a little. So far, I haven't picked up my HE-400s since I got these. Great fun biggrin.gif

They sound great with my Asagar 2, and plenty of power. However, my C&C BH is definitely kind of challenged when I use them away from my desktop setup. Anyone have recommendations for a portable amp that powers them better than a C&C BH? And has at least the SQ of the C&C BH. I'm guessing the E12 is one consideration.

From my experience the E12 powers them well, the E12 does not struggle to power the K612 at all and sounds clean, clear, and smooth.

E17 can also power 612pro without any issues. despite excellent extention in bass in 612pros, some may find the bass response, quite flat/dry, but after little bass boost in E17 (boosting up to 4), I found 612pro and E17 can be a fantastic musical combination.

I occasionally use an E12 with them. It works well enough. Plus the bass boost if you feel the need is really quite useful, since it's quite a nicely done boost.

I prefer it with the E12 in comparison to the O2 which is a bit cooler.

I found E12 is boosting little too much bass, comparing with E17 bass setting 4. I personally prefer E17.

Thanks, guys. Anyone using the JDS C5 or C5D with them?

Actually, the E17 does look a bit classy!! Nice that it has different levels of bass boost as well as working as a DAC.

I'm very tempted .........

The Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card, $85, can easily drive headphones like the 120-Ohm AKG K612 Pros.

Sums it up for me - they're not perfect but for around 200$ you won't get a better neutral, reference headphone wink.gif

Eq the 2khz hump down (like most of the series) and you have a really great headphone! Comparing the K601 direct with the K612 reveals the 'improvements' that have been made both in the treble and slightly warmer bass.

I always felt that the K601 was a bargain that was overshadowed by the K701, but the K612 is even nicer. wink.gif Especially using 120 ohms output impedance which seems to smooth it out a little more.
