AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!! - Page 80

Bit off topic here (posted a few weeks ago, reagarding k612's and amps and schiidt etc)....if so mod or admin please redirect to appropriate thread.

The k612's are starting to mellow a bit, but still not exactly mellow.  However, I still want to resurrect my old k141's mark 1.  The problem is inside the cans, loose wire, last 2-3 times I just plopped on way too much silver solder and some thin wire I found around the house, with some electrical tape for good measure (couldn't quite stretch the original lead to the inside contact).

Question: I need to resolder again, and the original wire just won't stretch to the inside  contact, so I need to bridge it again.  What kind of wire do I need to use? Material, resistance, shielding, etc? The last attempt worked pretty well until I bumped it again....shame the k612's don't have the mini xlr contacts (BAD!)...

BTW my ancient V-Cans mark 1 are working ok, but find that plugging directly to my sound card at the back of the pc is suddenly working ok (although sound quality isn't great)...have my cans suddenly dropped in ohms? Bizarre...or I was listening to really friggin loud music when I first started posted...or music at very low volumes.

thanks again for advice and help...very much like overclock.net, thank god for enthusiasts on the net! Let's keep it neutral!

Buy some Mogami 2893 from Redco and use it to replace the internal wiring.

The stock wiring is just plain copper coated with enamel then sheathed in plastic, nothing special or great.

Same but right side.

I have that issue with most headphones. Very few pads are deep enough for me. One such being the Hifiman's pads.
The K701 pads are as well, but I did not like the sonic change.

Has anyone published FR graph anywhere for the K612? I have just receieved mine and compared it with my old (tired) K601. I also had K702 pads sent.

Sound seems more 'relaxed' to me. It seems a fraction more 'mellow' with really good bass quantity. The treble seems more civil to me for some reason as well. Whether that's a result of the slightly higher bass level, I'm not sure.

I quite like it with K702 pads although I'm not certain of the changes from the original pads since these are new to me. I prefer the comfort of the 702 pads as well since they're a bit deeper.

I have a K712 coming in next week, I'll mention how the pads sounds on the K612.

I tried the 712 pads when I had it here, briefly, and it wasn't to my liking. They add even more bass than the 702 pads, but without the extra air to breathe.

What hype? I don't recall anyone hyping up or even mentioning the K612 w/712 pads.
