Thanks for the tip!
I will check that out, otherwise I will go on Ebay.
Perhaps someone here is selling their K601?

I'm in a worse situation than you, man. I've only got a CMOY I bought off of ebay. Your GV5 is a better amp for sure.

Oh well, the headphones sound good and that's all I care about. There's always room to upgrade in the future.

I'm currently looking for those. Anyone could compare them to the MS1 because that will be from what I upgrade ?

I found them to be a great upgrade from the MS1s.

They are harder to drive than the MS1s so at least turn them up to give a fair comparison, an obvious point but one often overlooked I feel.

The bass is more controlled, they reveal high end detail that is almost completely absent from the MS1s, soundstage is huge and they have an overall sound I find very pleasing coming from my MS1s (which I also love).

The MS1s are naturally more in your face, and superficially more fun (though tuned to be less in your face than Grados), but the more I listen to my K601s the more it becomes apparent how superior they are.

I'm considering getting a pair of these (or K701) as a complement to the SA5000.

How wide is the soundstage compared to the HD 595 (I say the HD 595 rather than the SA5000 because I reckon more people will have heard it)? More spacious correct? Do female vocals sound lush and are the mids 'full' sounding? How do violins fare?

Hope you get what I mean

haven't heard 595 sorry, but 601 has a relatively smaller soundtage compared to the rest of what akg offers int hat bracket. there is a sweet spot for female vocals and violins seem fuzzed over sometimes

hope that helps

Cheers. From what I've read, the soundstage is wider then the HD 595 which is good enough for me. Ah, the proper thing to do is just get them and find out myself. Off to the For Sale forums then...

Hi there,

I'm probably going to be ordering the K601s in a few days, but I'm a little nervous about some of the sound signature descriptions I've read. I've just had the ATH-AD700 and had to return them due to lack of bass and a sharp top end, could someone reassure me that the K601s have a smoother top end and adequate bass? I don't need masses of bass, just enough so that you don't notice it as being obviously missing.

I realize other equipment comes into play and I don't have a headphone amp yet (although I have borrowed a White Noise headphone amp, so I will be able to hear them amped) or know which one I'll be purchasing, but let's assume I get one of decent quality with a warm sound.

Just want to check I'm not making a mistake. Thanks in advance for any guidance

I just purchased the k601's and the HD595's. I'm still waiting for them to arrive, and will be sending back the pair i like the least.

I just got my K601. Out-of-the-box I like it very much. But I guess 'some' burn-in is needed.
The burn-in is the best part of the headphones! They just keep getting better and better. I didn't keep track of hours, but after a month or two, you will be pleasantly surprised :-).
After initial pre-burn in testing, i found the K601 to be better then the 595s. The k601s have a larger soundstage, more bass, and sound less canned then the 595s.

While they are very comfortable, the headband tends to slip down my head over a given period of time. Then 595's stayed put.

Overall i'm very pleased with them.
