Minibox D

this amp caught my eye:

i understand it is a chinese amp, made by three stone, and goes for us$111 shipped. some of 3 stone's other minibox amps have a "ptos" switch, presumably to switch impedence between ety er4p and s iem's. this also has a "high/low" toggle it appears.

does anyone know what it sounds like, specifically with the er4p with the high impedence switch on? also, how can an american in seattle get one? i'm considering building a micro rig around it.

The Max chip in the LD M+ is a different number but I am not impressed so far. Since much of the sound, if implemented correctly, is going to be shaped by the opamp it would be good to know someone's opinion of this chip.

I would spend a little more money and get an excellent sound Xin Micro but then you do have the wait. I don't consider the LD M+ much better than many outputs from a good portable device. The output from my older Sony D-303 is better.

thanks, so that's the same chip type as the minibox d? well that's enough to scare me away. i like the rsa sr-71 enough i'd consider the tomahawk for the micro rig--that is after i hear it.

plus being able to ditch the ety er4p->s cable would be nice too.

What cracks me up is the obvious knockoff names. "Carddass" Hahaha. Cardas wanna be. Last three letters should sum it up.

LOL. That's China's fake goods industries for you. Though sometimes the imitations are so close looking to their original counterparts that you'll have you compare them side by side and still can't tell easilly.

saw this at the meet in NYC today, got to play with it....

two questions...

1) who was the vendor with it? He had a sign saying it was $69 shipped...

2) where can i order these online?

Carddass is actually not related to Cardas at all. It's the name of a type of card vending machine in Japan.
Card dass -> card dasu, where dasu means to put out.
So as you've probably already figured out, it's a deck case for card games

my thoughts....

You cant judge amplifier performance strictly on the OP amp alone. Just look a th RA1. Implementation of the OP amp is more important than the chip itself.

You have no idea how an amp sounds until you hear it with whats upstream and downstream of it. Synnergy with components is just as important as the circuit design.

You can't judge OP amps just on the first 3 letters alone.

to the OP.... Use your ears to guide you.

this Minibox D also caught my eye, because it's so thin. I'd be interested in observations/impressions with a set of e500s with it.

I personally liked it a lot with the PK-1s

Cardass is a trading card community/website it just so happens that the minibox-D fits, so so what if they use their case?
