Well you could assign 'contacts' to a shortcut, then enter say first 2 letters of a name if there are lots of entries for that letter. That's what I do. But yes, I see your point. If the screen won't be blighted by smudges (it'd bother me ), the iPhone looks to be the benchmark for UI now

Why not just push the down-button when you are on the main screen?
down: contacts
up: walkman
left: write a new message
right: unused shortcut.

I agree that the UI could be much be better, and it could always use some more buttons to navigate, but there's no space for it seems.. It's nearly too small already.

Slick....

The more I read about all these super-feature filled phones... the MORE pissed I get at Verizon. IMHO BY Far the WORST phone selection of ANY provider I'm happy with my LG, but it wasn't my first choice.

Ive seen cell-phone recycling bins and donation programs that have better phones.

Unfortunately they are also the only provider I get a usable signal in my area.

I envy all the Cingular users.
