Xenos 1HA-EPC Arrival - Page 8

The $80 question is whether this sounds noticeably better or worse to your ears than the tomahawk?

Although I've started with a govibe, my ideal setup will turn into a supermacro (or new larocco or portaphile shohin or xenos x5) that is semi-stationary at home/work/uni/wherever i have a desktop/laptop and a tomahawk for on the go. But the xenos does look interesting.

I just haven't had the time to compare it in any detail to other amps yet. But I'd say that w/r/t to the Tomahawk, the size of the Tomahawk has to be taken into account. The TH is like 1/3 the size, and 1/4 the weight, of a 1HA. And I'm still not sure which sounds better.

I do still prefer the Hornet to the 1HA, but the Hornet is more expensive.

Um, not to be pushy or anything...

...but six pages have passed and nobody's posted a reasonable-size text review yet. I'm certain I was the first person to review the 3HA here < http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showth...nos+3ha+review >, and I'm aching to read a complete workup of the latest. So, if you have some spare time....

Yes! Please! Otherwise wait a week and I will post an in-depth review of the 1HA-EPT... Geez!
Sorry guys, that won't be from me. I am tapped out after my massive portable amp round-up. I will not be formally reviewing this until I add 4 more amps to the review.

I just received my Xenos amp. I got the x1ha-epc and initial impressions are great. I ran it back and forth against my bithead and I feel the xenos has the upper hand in every way. It's really hard to compare the two, but i did notice the xenos pushes out lower notes and it just sounds like there is 'more' to the music.

the size is my only concern. I can't really see myself taking this everywhere all the time. if i have a bag, no problem. but there is NO WAY this will go in any of my pockets and in a jacket would be pretty cumbersome...

It is very well constructed. I really like the solid clicking of the jacks. At first I thought there was maybe something wrong with them since I've never had to push my headphone or line out so hard. They seem really snug. And don't get me wrong it's not so hard where you are forcing the connects in. Just different than what i'm used to in my very limited experience with this wonderful gear Perhaps most amps are like this!

There is no hiss unless i really crank up my hd595 to volumes WAY WAY past what a normal person would listen to. i've yet to try it with my IEM's super.fi 5pro.

TOnight I'm going to really listen once the ipod charges up and will give a some pics and a better review for ya'll.

FWIW, i'm using hd595, alo copper dock, 30gb 5g ipod.

Hows the bass? treble? mids???? airy? Wiiide soundstage? Did you try it with your IEMs yet?? C'mon bro, ya killing me!! I still have time to cancel my order!!

With this amp out of the gates (and not really reviewed yet...though the reactions look interesting), I find myself even more intrigued by the amp that's coming out in April. If the 5HA is as revolutionary as its designer suggests, it should be remarkable (albeit remarkably larger than the other Xenos amps).

Do you have any more info on this 5HA?

In all regards it seems there is more depth to the music. Is that soundstage? There is simply more going on. It made my ears tired listening. I just felt over stimulated So I went and had some dinner. FWIW, I felt this way initially when I received the bithead but got used to it pretty quickly. Hopefully the same goes with the Xenos.

Bass: this was the first thing I noticed...perhaps because I like bass, but who doesnt?? I listened to Closer by NIN and the package by a perfect circle and heard some bass notes I'd never picked up before with headphones. The hd595 appear to have much more bass than I expected

I just plugged my IEM's for you. And they sound fantastic(duh) I also just pulled the trigger on some e500.

The volume is barely turned on with the super.fi while listening to Unison by Bjork. The cable is dying on my super.fi so I just plugged the hd's back in. I must admit the hd sound significantly better with the biggest difference being detail.

Well, I'm not so great at analyzing this stuff.

The only conclusion I can offer right now is I'm really happy with the amp and I think it is quite a step up from my previous amp both in sound and build quality. I also feel satiated and shall stop grazing the amp board

Yay! That's what I needed to hear... hopefully this amp will have a big enough impact so there will be more options and choices in this arena, seemed to be getting kinda boring with certain types of threads over and over again.. Nice to hear about a new player in this field! Or rather a new offering...

and CHEERS on the E500s!! You'll be happy with 'em! If not FS and move on to the other triple drivers (whenever they come out )

This isn't helping my anticipation!

PS: Thanks Spooky, I think I may be pulling the trigger on HD600s!! Time to switch up from IEMs!

I think for this amp big headphones are the way to go. It seems like overkill for the IEM's...at least the super.fi. I barely even nudge the volume to achieve a listenable level.

i'd say go straight for the 650s! They are only $25 more at amazon! Hmm, maybe I should get those, too. I bet they sure would shine..what the ?!? Maybe another glass of wine will persuade me...
