So i just downloaded the trial copy and it has made a world of difference as far as boosting the performance of my headphones (hd280's). I'm sure to most of everyone's standards this plug-in for itunes is crap, but to me as of right now, it is excellent.

any comments on this?

What exactly does it do? Just an EQ?

It selectively messes with phase relationships using psychoacoustics principles to trick your ears into thinking that sounds are coming from all around you. This sort of technique has been around for over a decade. A company called Q-Sound created a similar technology for imaging purposes in the '90s, and it was used on a handful of albums at the time (ex. Sting's "The Soul Cages"). It was also used on a ton of arcade machines to create an enveloping 3D sound with only two speakers that helped to eliminate noise from the other machines.

So, it's fun to try, but ultimately a step away from accuracy.

yes, it makes listening a little more fun, but def. not accurate in any sense.

Checking out iWOW

The new iWOW for iTunes is great. If you tweak the settings you can get something that doesn't sound too processed or artificial and tricks your ears that the sounds is more 'in front'.. so less accurate maybe but in more natural for imaging and room space.

I think they did a great job... also for bass this can give the perception of more bass (if you want) without modifying the EQ.

Using this with my MacBookPro and the HD280s...

Keep your equalizer flat and use this instead. Also if using iTunes make sure that 'sound Enhancer' is turned off in playback settings (other apps may have something equivalent).

headphone setting:
Set 'Speaker Size' to it lowest value. Keep 'Focus' and 'Center' at mid value, 'Definition' a third up, 'Space' - a 1/4 up, adjust Bass as you see fit.

Whatever floats your boat.

Excuse my ignorance but is there any way to get this for iTunes if you aren't a Mac user? I had it on a Samsung portable a while back and thought it was great with certain music tracks. Sacrilege to a lot of the audiophiles I know , but it worked for me on a regular basis. Seemingly Rockbox can't even use it for their EQ on the ipod as they would have to pay a licence fee for it .

Ha, this is so funny.  My wife just got this cable kinda like a LOD that plugs into the bottom of the iphone and I looked it up to see if there was any info here about it and sure enough, here's a thread!  Although her's is an actual piece of equipment and app.  Anyway, yeah, it's fun to mess around with and makes games more immersive, but certain songs echo a lot, as if they are being performed in a canyon.  Had no idea this had been around so long!
