Reasonably good mini speakers? (home audio)

I'm outfitting a small reading nook in my house and would like to include a set of small (I mean mini) speakers. Are there any reasonable ones out there? I know this is going to be a compromise.....I don't want to wear my headphones here

You can buy small powered monitors like the M-Audio DX4 for $150(as an example).

A little more info: I'll be running these with my home reciever via a speaker selector box.
Those audiophiles look great, but are they powered?

I picked up a set of Klipsch 2.1 (computer seakers) on ebay for $80 shipped (open box item). They sound fantastic with my nano, or a portable cd player. They sound better than any shelf system out there. They are powered with LOTS of bass that can be adjusted. the big advantage to these is you won't have to run wires from your main amp and you will have the control of your mp3 or cd player right next to you. They do have a subwoofer and are very stylish!

How small?

Energy RC-Mini would fall into the satellite class but still provide audiophile quality sound (not cheap at $400/pair)
