I notice my RCA jack a little dirty what should I use to clean it?

What can I use to protect the coating on the jack?

AFAIK XLR connectors are designed to be self-cleaning. Hence the reason you can use silver connectors with no problems.

I just use Phillips Contact Cleaner. I have been advised that CRC contact cleaner is slightly better as it doesn't seem to leave any residue (cost slightly more too).

Interesting bit, some hifi dealers recommended medicated oil (the one found in Chinese pharmacies). When I finished up my current can of contact cleaner, I might try that

Caig's deoxit, then pro gold, works very well and is easy to find.

x2. Rat Shack I believe has a mini-pack with both in it, plus a few pipe cleaners....
