Announcing Sponsors for Our K1000 Room: Stefan AudioArt and Moon Audio

It is a pleasure to announce that Moon Audio and Stefan AudioArt have graciously agreed to sponsor the K1000 room at the Int'l Meet. In addition, they are each providing an assortment of replacement cables for the stock "tail ends" on the K1000s available in the room. The idea is to be able to listen to a number of different setups with multiple K1000s all having the same cables on them. From past meet experience, this consistent cabling will take out one variable that can get in the way of comparisons.

Moon Audio is sending three 6' Black Dragon Cables, two with Spades and one with Banana connectors. Drew is also sending three additional cables with 1/4" terminations that he has available: a Cardas, a Blue Dragon and a Silver Dragon in various lengths.

Stefan AudioArt is bringing along three Equinox cables that James described earlier as two 6-ft Tail End Equinox K1000 Audiophile Headphone cables with Silver Soldered Ends and one 5-ft Single Ended Equinox Tail End with ¼’ connector. My own hardwired Equinox K1000 will be in the room as well, and it has silver solder terminations that James recently did for me.

Thanks to both Stefan AudioArt and Moon Audio for these contributions!

At least a couple of the local Head-Fiers with K1000 have additional Moon Audio and Equinox cables so there will likely be more available to compare and contrast. The K1000 was the crazy-good idea of jp11801 and he is going to be organizing. Shoot him a PM it you are interested in offering your K1000 setup for the room.

Benchmark DAC1 USB at Head-Fi Meet

Just wanted to let you all know...

Benchmark will be at the Head-Fi Meet in San Jose next month. We will bring the DAC1 USB for all to hear !!

So, bring your laptops with your favorite music loaded on it. We will also have a transport available, so feel free to bring your favorite CD's and/or DVD-A's.

Until then...

Elias,

It would be great if Benchmark would also consider bringing the H1 to the Meet. Thanks!

This is great news, even for those of us who can not attend but hope to learn from other's experiences.

One suggestion: If I understand correctly there will be at least one RWA Sig 30 on display. As a Sig 30 owner, I can tell you this amp is a prime candidate for silver cables. My personal interest leans toward hearing how Moon's Silver Dragon V2 does with the Sig.

The Sig will not except 1/4 inch. It will except bare wire, spades (the larger size I believe), or bananas. One word of caution, the bananas need to be single posts, because the standard dual pin banana is not wide enough.

If someone could request Drew to reconsider the termination for the Silver Dragon, IMO the Sig 30 is likely to be one of the best matches he may find for his V2 cable.

This may be the first time at a large scale meet that people will actually be able to hear subtle differences in amps for the k1000. So far on the amp side of the house we have, RWA Sig 30, First Watt F1, RVK, RWA Clari-t, SP Extreme, Moth 300b (Al please, please, please let us use this amp) and a mystery amp that as we speak is being built for me
The challenge for the room is going to be sources, any hope Slim Devices could throw us a few transporters (wishfull thinking I know).
Also if anyone has the First Watt F2 or F3 and can bring it to the meet please let me know.
PS Thanks goes to Al and the organizing team for allowing this indulgence!! Also to Moon and Stephan Audio Arts you guys are awesome to step up and sponser the room thanks.

The only all-silver cable in the room will not be compatible with the Pass, Moth or RWA amps. Is there anyway someone with pull can persuade Drew to reterminate the Silver Dragon to spades, single bananas, or bare wire???

I'm using all-silver ICs on my Sig 30 with great results. The silver pigtail may turn out to be a real winner for warm amps like Sig 30, the Moth and other tube amps.

Sorry to be a PITA, but the Silver Dragon could be a yet to be discovered K1000 winner!

I may have a trick up my sleeve on this front more to come

Can I bring my newly aquired K1000? It's in the mail but should be here anyday. Im trying to make decision's over what amp to purchase (as I dont have one now to drive the K1000's), and bringing my own sure would be nice. Its hardwired with a silver dragon cable terminated into a 1/4" plug. Its funny that everyone is talking about finding new ways to terminate the K1000's. I want to keep my silver dragon cable (as it is very pretty), but I would prefer it to be terminated into somthing that will be acceptable by a redwine sig 30. After a lot of posts, it seems that the sig 30 will be a great choice for me. But the darn 1/4" plug is stopping me.

EDIT: Sorry, I re-read your original post. You could easily have the cable reterminated (by a DIYer or Moon). If you go with the Sig 30 be aware that it accepts bare wire (many prefer this method, and it is the least expensive), spades (large size - check with Vinnie from RWA for exact size if you go spades, or single banana plugs).

Do you know if you have Silver Dragon V1 or V2 cable?

I am not aware if it is version 1 or 2. Is there a huge difference? I will ask tonight. The recabling was done very recently though, I believe.

I know that the 1/4" plug is going to give me nightmares. After my searching here im pretty sure that I want to get somthing along the lines of a sig 30, f1 or aleph 3. So far it seems the Redwine will be the best for me price wise. And I dont have/want to deal with a pre amp at this time. So I will most likely be saving for a sig 30. And at this time I dont have an amp for the K1000.

Maybe I can find someone to help me re-terminate the cable in a more acceptable way. I definetly dont want to keep the 1/4" plug because its going to hold me back too much. Im open to suggestions. Id rather keep the cord, but if the whole things needs to go, then it shall be so.
See my edit above. Retermination is easy. And if you go bare wire it should be free to pretty inexpensive depending on who does the work.

Is there a difference between V1 and V2. According to Drew's posts on this topic, the short answer is yes. I'd refer you to Drew for details.

Yea, if bare wire is as good as banna plugs thats perfect.

I sent you a PM in response to yours, but the answer to your question here is YES!!! Bring your K1000 and try it out with the amps present. If you get it re-terminated, you can try lots of things. If you don't, then the SinglePower Extreme and a few others will be fun to try. Either way you will get to hear your cans driven well and make up your mind on what you want to save up for. Unfortunately, Vinnie from RWA can't make the meet but his amps and many others will be there in force thanks to jp11801 and the rest of the K1000 room.

And, yes, John, I think the Moth will light in your room for the weekend.

Cheers!
