Thinking about picking up an earlier production pair listed in this thread by a multiple-K1000 owner. . .

What do you mean by "can drive them"?
I mean, a $30 T-amp or a cheap age old class A/B amp from ebay can drive the K1000s.
Not that good though although a modded T-amp is listenable.
I've once had a Prehead and it drove the K1000s to a decent loudness level, but I wouldn't call it a dream team.RichterDi drives his K1000 sometimes by two (!) Operas in a row.Still not very loud, but doesn't sound bad.
My former Rudistor RPX-33 dualmono wasn't bad.Did lack oomph (a bit), but was musical and that's most important.The Audiovalve RKV is great, but that's no secret and an exception.
That's it.Any other headphone amp I've tried over the years did lack the power or sucked for other reasons.
All in all I'd say most amps originally designed for ordinary headphones aren't suited for the K1000.Get a good speaker amp or a RKV.

i have tried the spark / cayin ha-1a and it drives my k1000 with no problems. volume typically at between 11 pm and 2 pm, depending on recording.

found it had less power to drive it from the spk outs.

my 2cents.

In addition what Cosmopragma wrote - as I own two Operas (one being the Prototype) I asked Jan to change the amplification factor of the prototype. Now I do not use them any longer in a row because the altered one does the job quite pretty!
