K1000 #1478 arrived today - they have more bass than naamanf's so there! Hah!

They sound good right out of my balanced Single Power Square Wave XL, and I'll try them out of my several compact speaker amps over the next week or two as well. I have a 9 foot Equinox cable sitting here that I can have installed and terminated in a 4-pin XLR for $130 - anyone here have that combination and recommend it?

So which amp drives them better - your Red Wine Audio amp or the Beta 22?

They are both stunning amplifiers for the K1000, but perform a bit different.
Guess I can sum up the differences like this; The Signature 30.2 are warm, neutral and engaging. While the Beta 22 are detailed, accurate and controlled.

I tend to prefer the warmer sound of the Signature 30.2, but certainly spend time with them both.

The Qinpu A-3 eight-watt/ch tube amp from head-direct does a very nice job driving my K1000 #1478 using a matched pair of JAN GE 5670 tubes (and not bad with stock tubes either). I'll try some JAN Sylvania 2C51 later as well, and write up a review by the weekend hopefully.

I actually have a Stax SRD-7 Pro connected to the speaker out, and the K1000 plugged into the back of the SRD-7 Pro, so I can switch between the O2 Mk2 or Jade and the K1000.

indeed, hope so, i am fan of lean accurate sound, and enjoyed the sony pfr-v1's spaciousness so should lovethe K1K's

Numer 10790 signing in!!! Best.... headphone..... EVER!

What was stunning for me was the excellent bass response, the Phonitor seems to drive them great, really good bass and nice impact, not lacking at all :|.

I will have to become accustomed to the weird way of wearing them , no headbanging with them on.

But the sound... oh the sound, amazing soundstage, great flat response, just amazing, just... perfect :')

It also came with a pretty interesting manual, and offcourse that nice wooden box! I love it!
Now its time to let them burn in I think? They have never seen the daylight before!

sweet, congrats, i think mine are well and truly burnt in but yours arent, which is nice for you

amazing sound, the sony pfr-v1's big Big brother for sure!

the flagships really have something to compete with now for, the ps1k and 800 may be turned away

Yes I'm getting sceptical that the PS1000 can beat these and/or my LNS's, but we'l see, hopefully here next week, its taking so long, but I don't care, the K1000 will keep me wow'd for the next couple of weeks/months.

It's not about them beating the K-1000s. You might prefer the PS-1000 or K-1000 or be plagued by wanting them both - that's more what has to be decided.

I am the original owner of mine - have had them for several years and they still wow me especially if I don't listen to them for a week and then listen.

YMMV, but I'm happy to have found the K-1000s - these and the HP-2s are my favorite phones. I guess it's no coincidence that they were both made for studio monitoring and are as uncolored as possible. I guess my goal was to be dropped off in the studio with no added artifacts if you KWIM - guess I'm just an old school audiophile.

I have the original cable which is crap. I will try to DIY and hardwire a new cable. There is a technique to it as described to me by an audio manufacturer. It's going to be a scary time, but it improves the sound and bass and will be worth it.

Glad to see everyone enjoying the bass. I think the "lack of bass" is usually something that people expect with these, but really don't seem to lack except the weight on the very bottom end. Anyway, quality bass is more important than quantity to me, and the tonal accuracy, layering, tightness, and impact of the K-1000 makes it the best bass I've heard in any headphone.

Yes I'm also first owner, its a NOS. And I am also a fan of the 'as-flat-as-possible' sound, thats why I liked the LNS and SRX-MKIII also, they sounded really good, not as good as the K1000 though, for the price I paid for this nos K1000 is was a bargain. I think I can it for my music productions, I was lacking a bit of bass impact with the LNS's, so therefore I couldn't mix on them. I tested some songs with the K1000 and it seems almost dead-on until 30hz, which is all I need tbh. I also love the fact that they are metal, and come in a nice case, and have just quality written all over them. btw what is about the recommended position of the earflaps?
