It's not about them beating the K-1000s. You might prefer the PS-1000 or K-1000 or be plagued by wanting them both

- that's more what has to be decided.
I am the original owner of mine - have had them for several years and they still wow me especially if I don't listen to them for a week and then listen.
YMMV, but I'm happy to have found the K-1000s - these and the HP-2s are my favorite phones. I guess it's no coincidence that they were both made for studio monitoring and are as uncolored as possible. I guess my goal was to be dropped off in the studio with no added artifacts if you KWIM

- guess I'm just an old school audiophile.
I have the original cable which is crap. I will try to DIY and hardwire a new cable. There is a technique to it as described to me by an audio manufacturer. It's going to be a scary time, but it improves the sound and bass and will be worth it.
Glad to see everyone enjoying the bass. I think the "lack of bass" is usually something that people expect with these, but really don't seem to lack except the weight on the very bottom end. Anyway, quality bass is more important than quantity to me, and the tonal accuracy, layering, tightness, and impact of the K-1000 makes it the best bass I've heard in any headphone.
