And for that I'm sooooo happy!

I listen at very modest volumes (75dbs) and with my superfi5pros + 5G iPod, I can clearly hear the hiss in between songs, and during quieter parts of songs. I don't carry the attenuator arround because that defeats the purpose of being "portable", so I very much look forward to these.

Haha... I'm just giving y'all a hard time.... I just said that because all this time they made it sound like it was a packaging problem, even though after weeks and weeks it was apparent this wasn't only the case.

Thanks for the update, powderhound. And glad you guys found the issue...looking forward to hearing the 3's and hoping this quirk was why some people thought the 3 was a bit sibilant :-)

I have trouble imagining a drop in frequency response would add to sibilance, but you never know...

I can't imagine sibilance resulting from a drop in frequency respone either, but if that is what was wrong, then it's the same thing that's wrong with the UM2...

Actually, I can. If there's a drop in the upper midrange or low highs, you might hear a bit of sibilance by comparison. To my ears, sibilance seems to result when only part of the upper range is emphasized -- if the whole upper spectrum is, the phones might be bright but not sibilant.

Alright, then explain why those who didn't hear sibilance from the Westone 3 prototypes thought it sounded amazing. There is no way that such a contortion to the frequency response could result in the apparently fantastic sound signature that many who have heard the Westone 3 prototypes are talking about.

Doug,

we still have no new release date for the 3's. When do you expect them to be released? Still in summer 2007?
Maybe you want to specify a month?

Thanks!

Summer 2008 anyone?

Later this year? Optimist.

I think I'll start putting my pocket change into a jar, and see which happens first -- the Westone 3 release, or the value of the jar equalling the price of UE-10s.

Agreed. Still indefinite at this point.

They've "identified the problem," are "in the process of making the necessary changes," and look to be "coming down the home stretch." I'd hardly call that "indefinite."
