I've addressed my complaints with the E500's several times but as far as balance between them and the E4C I would say the E4C is too lean in the bass but if amped by a Hornet, Super Macro, PRII or another bass heavy amp they can be very enjoyable. My biggest complaint about the E500 is the vocals... they sound sooo distant and so out of image compared to the rest of the music. There is no way to compensate for this. I'm glad you love them, many people do... and many people don't. I prefer a intimate vocal presentation... the E4C's do it well and the UM2's do it well and the ES2's do it very well.

This is about as pointless as a Grado vs. Senn debate... we each have complaints and praise that are not in agreement, big deal... some people love Coke and hate Pepsi; different flavors for different tastes.

In that case, I believe both areas would be lit! Though in my experience, I've yet to come across any prog rock that reaches the same level of genius as great classical masterpieces, in terms of architectural complexity and true thematic development and mutation. I know it doesn't change much, but it is worth noting that the E500 does sound quite different when using different tips (not shocking I'm sure). I've honestly found the new foam tips to work the best. The vocals seem to be more alive. I put the stock tips back on before and did not like what I heard....

Needless to say, I'm sticking with the foam tips.

dunno how it'll hold up to bach in 300 yrs, but gentle giant's music holds up 30 yrs out. and king crimson did some pretty nifty stuff too.

oh, and speaking of westones , anyone know p-hounds full name? doug something-or-other?

I've never heard Gentle Giant or King Crimson... I'll have to check them out I believe the h0und's full name is Doug Leavy.

I have been following this thread for since the start and like many others have decided to sink my money into the E500s. This will be my first pair of IEMs and i am very excited.

Being as these will be my first IEMs i have to admit i am a tip virgin. Do different tips make such a bid difference? If so is it worth me trying to get hold of the shure olive tips and if so does anyone know where i can get them fron in the UK or a website to buy from.

Many people have bought from iDealSound either on eBay or directly from their website since they offer the lowest overall price including worldwide shipping.

I myself have a set of Shure black foamies from them that haven't been put to use yet.

Some news on the Westone 3's I picked up in a German headphone forum:

Nice sleuth work! That was a well written piece of PR... what do you know, Westone is capable of it! I wonder why they haven't posted something like that on this thread? Maybe it's on the way...
