Hey! What a great record. Surprisingly opens with one of my least favorites, but damn does it get good after that. "White Waves" could be a great Radiohead track, albeit from a different side of Buckley than Thom heard. "Johnny Viola" is epic. "Failed Queen" is beautifully sad. "Hail, Mary" is so reminiscent of the sglorious days of late 80's when Spirit of Eden was the most creative sound in rock music. Majestic.

You do like that Electrelane, don't you?!!! I might have to check that out. I wasn't as enthusiastic as you about "Axes" though, so I don't know. I'm on my second time through disc one of "Palo Santo". What a great sound! I am liking this a lot! "Red Sea, Black Sea," wow!

Actually, I was pretty disappointed in Axes, except for the mind bending goodness of "Suitcase", and the outstanding quality of the recording and performance. Just too much noodling for my taste. I much prefer the vocal interplay and the more concise songs. This one really captures them at a high point. Probably never again, although they have been touring with some bigger bands like Arcade Fire, so might be able to keep it alive for a couple more records.
