EAC + CDDB / FreeDB

Hey all,

I have been trying all evening for EAC to connect to either CDDB or FreeDB to download a track list but it will just not work!

I have tried different servers with no luck, I have once got as far as it locating the CD Title correctly but it would not download the results.

The error I keep getting is: "Error - initialisation failed"

I have looked all over the hydrogenaudio.org for an answer but it just seems to be full of people looking for answers.

Winamp is able to catalog just fine using CDDB...

Can anyone help?

I've never seen the error you are getting. I would start by rechecking the freedb settings in EAC.
Do you have an email address entered? It doesn't need to be a valid address, just the correct format.
Do you have the desired free db server chosen in the dropdown box?
You can try checking the checkbox at the bottom to select a different server on connection errors, but I doubt that will help.
I'm assuming you have a straight Internet connection (no proxy server).
If a CD in in the drive, select "Database > Get CD information from". Is that selection available, or is it greyed out?

Plenty of guides available, but I don't know if they have the answer to this problem.

I had a similar problem once.

I ended up having to setup freedb to point to a proxy server. I found proxy servers by searching google for "free proxy servers", and I used the first proxy that actually worked.

Yes, straight connection, via a router if that counts? Winamp has no problem contacting CDDB however.

ARGH, no luck with anything

I'd delete the installation and do it again from the start. Are you using V0.95 beta 4?

Yes, latest stable release. I have uninstalled and installed about 4 times now, I even tried on another hard drive and another computer, no luck...

The only other thing I can think of is if XP (or whatever operating system) is blocking EAC from doing the lookup.

EAC / Lame is the best combination available. I hope you find the problem and let us know what happens.

Well, I am using windows XP, nothing special... tried with and without the router and without the Firewall to no effect.

The solution... I uninstalled it, and installed 1st Multiformat Converter instead, it rips to FLAC from a CD on the fly and did an entire CD in under 4 minutes! - it costs to own but it's worth it.

Well, a result in the end, thanks for your help!
