I'm really intrigued about the Transporter! Has anyone ordered it or had a chance to hear it?

I'm surprised no one has bought one of these DAC's yet.

I just got one and have very little listening time on it. I am using it as a transport in this setup:

Transporter -> Empirical Audio modded DAC1 -> Singlepower ES-1 -> HE90.

The transporter is replacing my CEC TL51Z. The difference is striking. I was planning to have to settle in with it for a while to notice any difference but from the first track I played I have been more than impressed. Other than the coolness factor, my main motivation for purchasing was to get rid of all the cd jewel cases laying around. This level of improvement in the sound of my system is a bonus I really wasn't expecting. I will not be going back to 'old-fashioned' put in a disc & play anytime soon.

I have 2 of them, one modded and one stock. IMO, they make for stellar transports.

The analog outputs of the transporter are suppose to sound quite good. Have how do they sound compared to your modded dac1?

I have not used them yet. Only had the unit less than a week.

Which one do you think is better? Modded or original? Mind characterizing the difference?

It's interesting given all the press and buzz about this DAC that no one here has had a chance to compare it's DAC quality to other DAC's. I'm also wondering how the Transporter's DAC stacks up against the Bel Canto DAC3 or the Lavry DA-10.

It is not a DAC, it is a music server that also has a built-in DAC. It has much greater functionality than most DAC's. Please use the search function and you will see that both Hirsch and Sleestack have given some impressions concerning the Transporters DAC to other DAC's/CDP's.

I dont think he thought it was a DAC. He was asking about the quality of its DAC (analoge outputs) compared to other sources.

I know for a fact that the modded one has even lower jitter readings than the already very low stock Transporter, however I can't say that the difference is audible. It is more of a peace of mind thing for me.

I haven't spent much time comparing the analog sections b/c I am waiting on my Singelpower SS-1 to do that comparison for the benefit of headphone users interested in the DAC.

I'm extremely happy with the Transporter and would have no reservation recommending it as a high end digital transport. It is extremely versatile, aesthetically pleasing and most importantly, has allowed me to spend more time listening to music with no sacrifices to fidelity.

A couple people who heard them mentioned they weren't that great of DACs. I think it's mostly a high end music server, a DAC second. They claim them as "top of the line" DACs, but everybody claims that.
