I foolishly left the feedback after I opened them and listened to them briefly to confirm that they were in working condition which seemed to be the case.

Having never seen HPs in person, it wasn't until after that I discovered the drivers looked different. Even after I became suspicious I didn't want to accuse him of anything until Grado confirmed they had the wrong drivers in them which I just learned today.

I will be sure to rectify the situation so others are on notice. This is my first ebay transaction that has gone bad so it's a bit of a learning process for me.

Falling victim to eBay scammers is always a painful experience and a tedious process to sort out, all the more so with 1k US$ on the line. I really feel happy you got the real thing now. Too bad this $&# was able to pull this off too many times.

I can not believe this seller has managed to scam 3 people so far, even with his 400+ ebay feedback. Sorry to hear about this Toonie

I should have made a separate thread after what happened to me, but I just wanted to forget the whole thing

Sorry to hear about your eBay woes, man.

On the positive side, if you get them working again, the RS-1 drivers in the HP-1000 enclosure sound very, very good.

x2

Also, wouldn't it be possible to track down a pair of HP1000 drivers and have them retrofitted?
It would be, but I can't see how that's likely. As far as I know, Joe Grado himself is the only one left who has spares of the HP1000 drivers and used to replace them for a fee. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I doubt it simply due to the passing of time and people taking advantage of that offer.

Have those Bad Boy BLASTED OFF to Joe Grado immediately?? He'll have mercy on you since you want the Joe Grado Sound?

It's more money but they will be like new.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to locate a set of HP1000 drivers. I have already filed a dispute and claim and am waiting to hear the outcome. I have been in contact with the seller as well and no surprise here, he is not willing to issue a refund.

I have made both ebay and paypal aware of the situation. I contacted ebay to try to change the feedback I had previously left but they informed me they cannot change it from positive to negative. I updated the feedback to notify people of the situation but it will still count as another positive feedback for the seller despite the fact that ebay is on notice of the situation

On a brighter note, I spoke with the woman from Grado today and she informed that if I do end up getting stuck with the HPs with the bad RS-1 driver she would replace the bad driver for me for free. Now that's some customer service I'm even more of a Grado fan than I was before. Not only do they produce some excellent headphones, they seem to really care about people who buy their products, even second hand.

I'm still looking forward to getting the real deal HP-2s from cantsleep which should be here tomorrow. I'm very excited about it after this whole mess. I think I'll stick with trying to deal exclusively with solid head-fiers in the future now that I have gone through this experience with ebay.

I didn't even think to be concerned about a seller with over 400 positive feedbacks. The worst part is that in my most recent correspondence with him, he is insisting that there is no way he would do anything wrong...he actually told me to just look at all of his feedback

Anyway, getting the HP-2s tomorrow should help to take my mind off this situation.

You must do a comparison between "RS1000" and the HP2

I don't know how I missed your post when I posted earlier. Any idea how I would go about doing this?

Just ask John Grado for Joes contact info, I bought spare Hp1 drivers & cable from Joe before he moved to NC.

Well it's turned out to be a good news day. First, I received the HP-2s safely from cantsleep and they work flawlessly. Thanks cantsleep!

I also spoke with Joe Grado and he said he can replace the RS-1 drivers in the ebay pair with HP1000 drivers. He also said he would check the cable and if there are any issues with that he can replace it as well. The whole treatment will cost me some more money but not too much considering this will make them HP-2s again.

Anyone interested in an HP-2 for a fair price should be keeping a close eye on the FS forum in the next week or two. I don't think I will be needing 2 pairs of these great headphones and would rather pass one on to someone else in the Head-Fi community who really wants a pair

Anyway, thanks again for all of the info, help and support! I am very happy to be a part of such a great community!

Ken
