Thanks for the all of the info and links!

I am really glad I started this thread or I would have never known any of this until he did the same thing to me.

I will post any updates.

Thanks again for all of the help,

Ken

Just a little update for anyone interested:

I contacted the seller and informed him of my concerns. He responded right away and told me he would ship the next day via Fed Ex and provide me with a tracking number. Sure enough, I got an e-mail from him yesterday afternoon and he said the headphones had shipped and provided a Fed Ex tracking number.

I looked up the tracking number and it's legit. I know I am not out of the woods yet but so far everything seems on the up and up. The package isn't supposed to arrive until January 5th so I won't know until then whether the package has my HPs in it or rocks or even worse...Triports.

Anyway, I'm still skeptical but hoping he comes through and does the right thing this time.

Perhaps all the discussion about this transaction made him decide his time of using these HPs for gain was over. I would throuly test them when you get them, with a purchase that big I think i would send them into Grado to get the looked over. You probably only have around a month to file a claim, and you should be 100% sure your phones are in good shape.
Now that im done with my over cautious rantings, i hope you really enjoy the Hps, be them 2 or 3s.

I received the HPs today and they work. I do have a question though. Is this what the driver casing(?) is supposed to look like?

In other pics I have seen they are black and do not have the white cloth so I am concerned he might have swapped them out or something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I want to make sure if there's a problem I can take the necessary action in time.

Thanks again,

Ken

I had a search through some pictures of HP-1000s and they all have black cloth instead of the white cloth on yours The RS/GS/SR/PS series all have white grilles. I really hope what you got is legit and untampered with. How do they sound?

those also look damn new. I mean its possable, but you might want to send them into Grado, or as the least get a really experiaced Headd fier in your area to check them out

I'm glad you received them anyway. Listen to them through an amp with enough power to drive them. If they sound grain less, neutral and liquid then they might have the right drivers in them.

Hope that #$%& didn't swap the drivers on you...

Let us know.

Oh and if they turn out to be legit... get rid of the bowls and get some flats.

Yeah, that's exactly why I am worried. I haven't a chance to listen to them that closely yet, only briefly.

Edit: Oops, now that I'm at home and actually looking at the headphones, the mesh is actually black. The previous pictures I posted looked white because of the flash bouncing off of them. Here's another picture from my pair:

So between the white mesh (indicating that they were opened up) and the drivers looking like they are black, it doesn't seem to bode well for the pair you bought from eBay. Hopefully you'll be able to get your money back from the seller. However, I'm glad you just scored another pair from Cantsleep. Enjoy, they are great phones!

x2 on the flats recommendation for the HP series. Besides the qualities above, they should also sound very visceral (having more mass in the notes) and detailed as well compared to other Grados.

the true test to see if those are real HP1000 drivers is to look at the color of the driver itself. look from the front of the grille. is the plastic driver inside white, like this? if it's black, it's not an HP1000 driver.

Thanks for the help guys!

I actually just spoke with someone from Grado Labs and they said that if they had been repaired they would have the white cloth. They also said that they would inspect them for me to make sure that the correct drivers are in there.

I decided that it can't hurt to have them looked at so I am overnighting them to Grado to be inspected and the person said they would call me tomorrow to let me know.

I would rather be overly cautious since I spent a lot of money on these and the seller has a sketchy past regarding this headphone.

Anyway, thanks again for all of the informative and supportive replies. I really appreciate all of the help!
