What is your preferred computer keyboard and mouse

I just purchased a Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 v.2 today at Compusa.

Was this a mistake? I got home and installed it very fast and easy. For the first four or five hours it was rock solid. Later tonight I have started getting low signal strength and am losing connection with its antenna. Batteries are new and full strength. The antenna is less than a foot from the components.

Is there a secret in getting a wireless keyboard and mouse to work? I know people do this all the time. Why is it that I have never gotten a one to work reliably for me? This is a new Dell machine less than two weeks old. I tried a Logitech one about three years ago and it was a disaster. It is looking like I again can get a wireless keyboard and mouse to work right. It really is a pain when you reboot and not have a keyboard available.

The feel and touch of the keys and the mouse is great. But it they don't work reliably then that matters very little. I guess you can't bet a simple USB connection for a keyboard.

I noticed that this started when I was attempting to use Windows media player. Could this have anything to do with this problem or was this coincidence?

I go tthe top of the line Microsoft model, and had the same problems. I also hated the size of the mouse, the sound of the click, and my wife hated the size of the keyboard. Oh, and that low signal strength never went away no matter how many times I hit the reset button.

So what is your solution? You still have that top of the line model?

kb- Older clicky ones you get from the AT comps that have suddenly become expensive.

mouse- Heavy ball mice for regular use, light optical mice for gaming related things.

Keyboard: Microsoft Natural 4000. I'm not a fan of their operating systems, but damn can Microsoft make a nice Ergonomical Keyboard.

Mouse: Anything Logitech. At the moment I'm a fan of the MX518 - best mouse for the money I've ever owned.

Logitech for mice and keyboards. The MX/VX Revolutions are dreamy... and the G11 is sick. The DiNovo setups are also super-cool.

I converted to Keytronic keyboards a couple years ago. They're the best out there, just a normal keyboard, without all the media controls, etc., exceptionally well made. I'm also partial to the old Apple Extended Keyboard II, those are excellent.

For a mouse, I like Kensington Trackballs. Wonderful.

saitek eclipse for gaming, dinovo lazer for multi media. I got my razer diamondback for gaming looking for a wireless mouse for multimedia, prolly a g7.

Logitech MX1000 laser mouse, 18months+ and she runs as beautifully as from day one. I get about over a week of normal useage (i.e. many hours per day) per charge. Tracks great on just about any surface, even carpet. A lovely piece!

I'm currently using a relatively old Logitech wirless ergonomic keyboard, which aside from being a bit on the overly clicky side is also a joy to use. I would replace it with their current ergonomic offering, but it's hard to stomach coughing up what it costs considering it comes with a mouse I neither need nor would use.

Logitech is the way, mon frere. They are much better at the wireless thing. I've never had a problem. I particularly like their media mouse that can control media applications like Foobar and Itunes.

x2 MX1000, best mouse I've ever used. Call it 2 years solid!

Old Microsoft Natural keyboard(Yeah, M$....). Great keyboard, surprisingly great for games!

And Green Razer Copperhead. Also, great for games!

But, I am on the search for a good wireless mouse/keyboard combo. I like to watch divx stuff while I lay in bed(this requires turning my monitor, and getting in and out of bed to select the next movie/episode of House!

Im using MX5000, and for some reasons my MX1000 has some weird delay problems...and occasionally it doesnt move and requires a short cooldown. It is a fine mouse, but I think my MX510 is much better though. The keyboard is pretty good, but the latest set point is a little buggy and it the smart key would crash the KHAL occasionally. Unfortunately the LCD doesnt have a backlight, and the email notification only works if you have it turned on in you messenger. I need to get my set exchanged (I dont even wanna think about the after chrismas return line on the customer service counter)...something is just not right with the mouse. Despite that, the range and battery life pwns RF anytime of the day.

Wireless sets are nice, though for the ultimate in gaming reliability - don't want that mouse dying on you in the middle of a frag-fest against 2000 Combine soldiers in Synergy - wired keyboards and mice are a must. Logitech G5 is probably the best successor to the MX-series of mice... I've never tried any Razers personally, but I'm curious as to their performance.

Wires = no delays, power problems or *$%( moments.

EDIT: And good micepads can make or break your mousing experience. I personally prefer Funcpads, especially their Archetype series.

heck, i'm still using wired equipment. (sexy viewsonic ku709 super slim keyboard and logitech mx310 mouse lol)

i'm thinking about buying an adesso wkb4000 for the wireless switch due to my little home theater setup, but for something that cost that much.. i'm not sure.
