I recently ordered the SR60's from Todd. They were here fast because I live in Montana too. Certainly nothing to complain about the service. It was nice to get someones expert opinion on a set of cans. I have not really used any for decades.
I like these. They are well broken in by now. The little earbud phones on the cheap do give them the run for their money, but if you listen really hard you can usually find a fault with the cheap phones.
I grow more fond of the Grado's every time I listen to them. I still don't know much about headphones though.
I feel like the "break in" is more getting used to them in your brain than any mechanical softening.
I would like to A-B a new pair with an old pair(SR60's), and also an expensive pair of cans. I'm curious what you get in that $500 region. Would I notice the difference at $1000? Don't know.
Aural experience is decoded in the mind, and it tags on a lot of expectation (makes the sound the way you want it to be). One dude mentions that a proper A-B expires in about 3 seconds. Then your mind starts interpreting what you hear. Kinda like an internal graphic equalizer.
Anyway I am an amature looking for fun things to spend money on. Got some starter Polk audio speakers and I mainly focus on imaging. I have been enjoying it all so far. Gotta get a new belt for my ancient turntable to I can get my favorite vinyl on CD. These headphones have certainly lived up to their reputation. But I expected more...
