LD Micro Tube, ah tubes at last. . Buff634 bypassed - Page 12

Hey! I replaced the 4562 with their upgrade opamp and put the two buf634's in and this thing sounds very good. I prefer the sound to the 4562 as more musical. That is it, just more musical.

One thing, the tubes do get noisy easily so I do not feel this is a good amp to purchase as it is too hard to find good tubes. Just a caution.

Jamato8, could you clarify what opamp you are referring to as the "upgrade opamp"? I tried your suggested bypass of the opamp and was considering playing with other opamps in lieu of the 4562. Thanks!

I have had my Little Dot MT for about 8 months. I really enjoy the sound with my Senn HD595's.

One thing that has recently has become a problem is a high pitched squeal in the right channel. It will come and not disappear unless I switch the amp off and then back on. Is this what others are referring to as a "noisy tube"?

If I need to buy replacement tubes what is a good source?

Thanks in advance!

The only way to get tubes is from Little Dot, and yes, I would imagine the tube is the problem. These tend to have a high pitched sound but there can be many different types of tube sounds and the squeal is just one one them. :^j

Have you opened the amp so that you know how to change out the tubes? It isn't hard but you should get familiar with it and generally you want to change both tubes out.

No I really havent done anything with it except enjoy it. I will look into ordering tubes from Little Dot and tearing into the amp. Is there anything special or difficult? Looks like there are case screws on the front and rear. I have not changed a tube does it require desoldering?

The tubes are soldered onto a dip socket that becomes the pins for the tube so all you do is pull the tube with the soldered socket out and place the other one in. It is very easy. Your dip socket might have some adhesive on it so you have to work the socket off the first time. This will leave one black socket soldered on the board that the new tube and dip will slip into. They used the adhesive so the tube would not dislodge during shipping but I don't think it was a good idea but once you take the old tube out you will be done with having to mess with the adhesive for good. I would order 4 tubes so you have a back up.

I did something to the board of my Micro Tube. Sent it back to China, arrived in a few days via Postal Express, they fixed it and turned it around. Great service and communication.

I received the MT back from China in about 2 days after being shipped. The speed of repair and turnaround surprised me, in a good way. Very fine service.
