Is there any other alternative?

I haven't heard an earbud under $20 that I really liked. IMHO they all seem to lack bass, some severely so.

Um...what? You want earbuds that don't go in your ears?

I'm just going to assume that you used the wrong word in the thread title and suggest the KSC-75.

Sorry, i meant INTO my ear. You know, like earBUDs (ie ipod buds) that go in your ear but not INTO your ears.

PS. And if u read my sig, ull see that i already own the ksc75

strictly earbuds (no in-ear canalphones), you're left w/ very little selection.

couple to be noted are Sennheiser MX400 or MX500 and Sony E828 or E838...

Question: What is the Best Sub-$20 Earbud?

Answer: The Sennheiser MX-450
Sennheiser MX500 sounds quite good but loses a lot when you're traveling with them. Open really isn't a good way to go when traveling. They are really very impressive for earbuds when you're in a quiet place. My pair took a bit of burning in to shine though.

AKG K14P is THE best earbud for that price range IMO.

i've heard good things about the v-moda remix m-class and a pair is on the way to me.

it's a step above the mx400/500s purportedly

The remix are about the same soundwise compared to the mx400/500 and the AKG 14P's. The only reason they cost more is because they are made out of metal. No buds under $20 will give you great bass performance, but the MX-400/500's will give you the best provided that your music is encoded at a decent bitrate. However, if you listen to a lot of classical and jazz, the AKG 14P will give slightly better mid and high end performance, but they do not perform very well in the bass department.

I'm also in the same situation. I dont like IEMs because they go way too deep into the ear canal. Earbuds dont give much bass. Headband Headphones ruin my hairdoo. Behind the neck cans dont work because i listen to music in bed and the KSC75 clipons leak alot of noise...

I have the mx400 and i can say that they are a "dime" above stock ipod earbuds. Unfortunately for me, i have bought them for $40cdn after everyone had said those were the "ones" to get...

I'd recommend the new Senn MX51 but then they're not under $20 here in Canada. Although they can be found in many places under $20 in the States. They provide a solid bass performance and have a rather dark signature to them. Unfortunately, they sell for $40 here in Canada.

TigerDirect.ca used to have them for less, but they're out of stock now. I'm still checking their site frequently and hopefully they'll be in stock again. Right now they only have the more expensive MX75 with that little disc extention...
