Audio-Technica AT-HA25D?

I'm looking for something to utilize the optical out on my macbook pro. Does anyone have any experience with the AT-HA25D. This is one of the few products I've come across that has an integrated dac with optical in at this price point. Another concern I have is that it isn't available in the U.S. If I order this what sort of power supply will I be looking for? Basically I'm looking for an dac/can amp with digital in (not usb) and headphone out. Thats it. Any concerns, other options you can give would be great. Here's the link.

yes i have it, it could be more powerful, it amps my d7000 pretty good butmy denon could use even more power,, if your cans need less power than the d7000 than they should work great with it

itested the ha25 d against the rsa predator and it is alot better than the predator imo, alot more bass, but the ha25 d isnt a bass headamp, overall it could use more
the one problem i have is that i can get xbox 360 to play over its optical toslink input
neither will ripped dvd i burned onto laptop work for some reason,,

why is that?

I use the HA25D with the optical output on my mac, and I am quite happy with it. Recently, I moved to Tokyo and had to convert to a headphone lifestyle. The HA25D provided me with a cost-effective and aurally pleasing amp/DAC solution. I bought it here for about $190 USD.

The fit and finish are nice, except for the volume knob's plastic. The HA25D has a fairly small footprint, especially when placed on its side, which makes finding a place to put it easy, although there are many smaller amps out there.

Sonically, it is very clear, over-emphasizes nothing, and can certainly power most headphones. If you want to spend lots more money, you can get a better amp, of course. Certainly, the sound is way better than your computer's analog output, and is very competitive with other amp/DAC combos in the $200 range. It doesn't use USB, which seems like a popular option, but that's no problem with a mac since they are all capable of toslink output. Also, you can use it as a stand-alone DAC.

The HA25D only accepts 2.0 PCM, so you will need to make sure that your digital devices are set to output a PCM signal instead of Dolby etc. In the xbox system preferences you can configure this setting. I enjoy using the HA25D with my xbox 360.

Also, be sure to set your mac's audio output to 96khz 24-bit when you're listening to high quality files via the Audio MIDI Setup application in the utilities folder.
