I was wondering the same thing, Mike. Then I thought about it a bit, and came up with:

Top Ten Reason CA People Haven't Signed Up Yet

10. don't need any more headphone gear.
9. do you know the way to San Jose?
8. what, miss the wine tasting in Napa?
7. I'm too busy filling out all those polls.
6. my parole officer might see me there.
5. there might be narcs and sniffing dogs.
4. Apple isn't on the vendor list.
3. that's the weekend of the Carmen Electra film fest.
2. dude, it's like 3 months away ...

and, the No 1 reason why CA People Haven't Signed Up Yet
... drum roll please ...

1. all those people from Florida and New York frighten us.

Sheesh. Can I retract my post? Where's a mod when you need one?

We have two more crazies signed in. Will it never end? Is this some kind of "we're not afraid you Florida and NYC weirdos" thing? Is that what's going on here?

Well, all I can say is, sign up all you want - by the 10's, the 100's, yea, even the 1000's. Bring on even a million strong - but you shall ne'r equal the east coast crazies who will attend. We will invade your homeland, and make it our own (Hide your women and children).

Yes, the gauntlet is laid down - west coast wimps vs east coast manly men (and women - our women folk are manly like, and will kick you in the place you do not want to be kicked, as soon as look at you). So, register and sign up all you like. It will all come to nothing - this meet may be AT some place on the west coast, but we all know it's still an east coast joint.

Somebody's been slipping something into Gene's Metamucil! No need to get all defensive and talk tough, my Eastern friend, we won't hurt you, *much*

Oh. Not so sure about that manly women comment there, Gene. I consider myself quite fem, even if given the choice between new shoes and a NOS tube, I'd choose the tube everytime.

Now, look here, Mr. Al Voltron. There's no need to get all defensive and show family photos. It's okay. Gene just says it like it is. Besides, we east coasters are as gentle as new born lambs when properly medicated. That is, until the GA sect arrives. I've been told that when they get out their soldering guns, there's no telling what will happen. But speaking of, where are those boys?

Al please do not send your momma after us. We'll behave sorta and probably only get loud and obnoxious after we've had a few drinks so you should be ok up to about 11am.
The guy you should be worried about is Stevieo he may be little and somewhat frail but he leaves a path of destruction that will be felt for years to come.

If jp nums has anything to do with it, the Florida contigent will be properly medicated but that's when the fun begins.

Gene, they should be scared, very scared.

Reason #7.5 - Drink great coffee. There's good coffee locally in San Jose, and a superb artisan roaster a few miles away; I'm sure some of us will be making runs over there to keep ourselves going.

Hmm...very cool. Perhaps they'd consider a sponsorship? Official caffeinators of Head-Fi?

Most showed, yet San Jose isn't that close to So Cal so it’s either a six-hour road trip or plane, car rental or shuttle or get a ride to the hotel. So at least to me there is little difference between going to San Jose or NY.

Plus where are those special Head-Fier hotel rates we've heard about? Or if there’s a cancellation deadline and return policy for those that want to register today instead of right before the meet when they are more sure about their schedules or there standing in line. I bet some are thinking what if I can’t attend this meet that's still three months away. And it isn’t just registering, but considering travel and lodging expenses.

When it gets closer like within 30 days you'll see a huge jump in registration, but it would be really helpful right now if details could be provided such as those special hotel prices and cancellation and refund policy, if there is one.

I recently found out my wife needs a Head-Fi account to register since before that there wasn't a way for me to purchase two admissions in advance.

At this point I am still undecided, possible with more info it will help me make my decision.

See what you started Gene. We were trying to keep out the riff-raff. Oh, wait, we are the riff-raff.

If I'm more riff than raff, can I still come?

I read this the wrong way at first and almost spit my coffee all over my computer screen laughing

Seriously folks while I know all the details have not been worked out with travel but I urge you all to register. It makes a HUGE difference to the organizers when we commit early. Also lets be real here $20 or $10 for students is not a alot to ask. If you do not go but paid well consider it your contribution to a site you love and an event you desire to see happen year after year.
And yes not being able to register a friend, relative or spouse for the meet without them becoming a member is a drag but on the upside if they register maybe they will one day share our addiction
