Heed and HD650 - Page 3

I cancelled the 650 cable replacement with Headroom. Thank you for the heads up. When they arrive Tuesday, the Heed/701/650 analysis will begin. I confess to being somewhat excited about pairing these 3 heavyweights.

Let us know your impression! I was debating on whether to get the 650 or 701, but ultimately decided on the 650 (as I'm used to the 600, and many say that the 701 is similar to the 600). The 650 is a bit of a departure.....some 600 lovers don't like the 650 because it might seem dark. I've gotten to see it as having really silky mids, and an extended bass and treble. With the setup I'm making/ it's starting to be the one that sounds the most like loudspeakers. But the fun thing about this hobby, I am finding, is trying to match a music genre to a particular headphone.

precisely why I wanted to add the 650s to the stable. Dark and Light

The stock cable on the HD650 is actually very good. The best replacement cables shouldn't try and altar that "starting" sound, just try and improve upon it.

any further comments on burn in? the 650s arrive Tuesday (my birthday oddly enough) and I want to give them the same opportunity I gave the 701s.

the 650s don't need burn-in in my acessment. The only Senns that I felt actually changed with burn in was the HD595. It may just take a few hours to get used to its silky smooth mids (and why I think some people just think it's a dark can).

HD650 definitely needs burn in. After all the headphones I've owned, the effect of burn in has been most clearly audible with HD650.

Oh no.....we've got a burn-in flaming war abrewing again Well I'm not the only one that doesn't believe in burn-in with the 650s....check threads and this gets to be a never ending debate that doesn't need to be rehashed here. There are two camps of the matter, lets put it at that

I am of the camp that some do and some don't need burn in. The AKGs were
a dramatically different headphone after 500 hrs. Other cans I have owned
never changed.

The stock cable is well built, and some people in the forums have actually recabled some of their OTHER headphones with the stock HD650 cable; a good sign. I think it would behoove you to wait and see just what kind of feedback you yourself get with your setup, stock cables installed. If you can pinpoint a certain aspect of the sound signature you'd like improvement in, then I suppose an upgrade would be in line. I've been using this as sort of my motto. If I can't hear anything wrong with a certain piece of equipment in my system, I don't try to fix it. (This is proving rather expensive however, because as of yet, only the CD3K's seem to perform perfectly up to scruff to my expectations...)

I tend to agree and will absolutely run the cans in before changing anything.

Have they landed yet, Wayne?

They were just plugged into the Heed. First blush: magnificent. I am at a loss
to hear whatever "veil" these cans are purported to have. Perhaps the Heed
has lifted that veil! Looking at my table with the Heed, the 650s and the 701s
side by side: a lot to be grateful for. Much, much more to come tomorrow (day off) and an evening of break in.
