"Mystery" Amp - Page 27

This little amp has now settled down to a very fine sound indeed. Got it 3 days ago and left it playing into a dummy load (2 x 100 ohm resistors). Am now listening on K701 and finding well extended bass and very sweey mid and upper range - excellent sound stage. Reckon that a charge will give at least 30 hours. On E5C there is only a little hiss when volume is set well above listening point (x1 on 6db gain setting).

its an awesome little amp, i am very impressed with it, and it drives both my dt770 and e5c with authority and with plenty of play on the volume dial.
after about 100 hours, it is sounding very effortless and chocolatey smooth.
with drum and bass and the dt770, headspace is increased, bass impact and authority is impressive and thee issue with tipped up highs and scooped mids i previously had with the dt770, have been somewhat tamed.
acoustic music sounds lush and full on my e5c, the dire straights are sounding so very moving and powerfully passionate. death metal has never sounded so brutal.

this is not a neutral amp, but it is making my experience with music so much more involving. i might buy another one for backup.

awesome value for the price. another happy x1 owner here!

After listening to it for an hour today after leaving it to burn in overnight (7 hours or so) it sounds awesome... I've been listening to some early drum & bass on it and can't quite believe how low the bass goes... Almost sub-bass on my SF5Pro's!!

I have left it on gain 6, as I found this to work best with the IEM's and DT531's.

I'd hold off buying another as a spare, as there are rumours that a PRO version will be released sometime soon !!

I'm seriously considering buying an AMP, and this looks like the baby for me, since i can afford it being a poor student, not like 200 quid upwards i have seen for some amps.

What kind of impact does this have on the sound Bass wise, i'm currently using a NW-A3000 with the EQ fully boosting the bass, but i really like my bass, and am hoping that this gives some more kick to the bass.

And your also in Sheffield, like me

Did you order from the American Ebay Auction or the UK one ?

Cheers,
MiG

Hi Mig

I bought from the UK eBay site... I put a best offer in that worked out at £50.57 including delivery and he accepted it.

If you promise not to mug me and you're in town, I could maybe meet you for a coffee and you can have a listen.

Is there anyone with the Hornet and the Xtra X1 who could say how they compare in performance ?

Twisting my arm here!

Ahh, what the hell...

Go ahead and add me to Team Blue Xtra X-1. I can't resist a decent deal, especially on something getting so much praise.

I also took one for the team, and ordered a Minibox-CL at the same time (same seller). Figured combined shipping would be a bonus. I'll post my thoughts on both when they arrive. I have an Elpac powered Home-Vibe to compare against. Damn the waiting!

ETA: uh oh, a black C&C Box is incoming also.
This shall be an interesting showdown!

Holy Cow!!

HOW many new amps?

I'd love to check out one of the Minibox amps, but I'm so happy with the X-1 at the moment, there's no need!

BTW, my X-1 came with a missing screw (and I rounded the head on one while I was putting it back together from checking the gain). Don't suppose anyone's got any spare screws that would fit?

Try dropping it on your Sky remote... It might turn green like mine did

Seriously though... Mine went stone cold after a couple of hours of charging and it being warm to the touch.
