Marantz SA-8001 Super Audio CD Player - Page 2

I wasn't impressed in the brief time that I spent with the Reference player, but it was on an unfamiliar setup in a noisy shop. I'll give the Marantz sound a second chance sometime, but I was mainly posting for information purposes.

My friend's family's setup has this and I have a fantastic feeling they haven't got a clue on what it does, or why they even got it. I am tempted to just go over there and audition it for a while.

Probably the same, I haven't listened to it extensively because the differences seem pretty apparent to me. I don't think I could live with the headphone out after using my Aria's RCA capabilities but I do think I could live with the unit's headphone out between amps maybe. The bass is warmer and the over all presentation is very sweet as stated by others. I find the unit's headphone out to be lacking in transparency (and a slight grain over everything, but this could be debatable).

I should note I love the SACD capability on this series. Its an amazing sonic improvement. CD players of the same sonic quality must range into the tens of thousands. I need more SACDs. (Sorry wallet)
