Thoughts on Anti-Cable

Any thoughts or better still. experiences with their speaker cables?

I have fallen out with my solid core silver speaker cables. Airy, sweet but ultimately lacking in dynamics and slam. I've tried some copper cables on loan (modified Clearaudio, Transparent MusicWave and soon to come Analysis Oval 9) and the improvements in dynamics and bass (of my monitors) were astounding. However most of these cables cost above USD 500 and I thought I might look into something cheaper. I'm just worried as the anti-cable are solid core copper.

Did my previous problem (lacking of dynamics) with my previous silver solid core speaker cable had to do with it being a solid core or it is because of the silver material itself?

If it is due to the nature of it being a solid core, I'm worried that the Anti-Cables would too lack in dynamics (they are solid core copper wire). All of this is just speculation of course.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

ps. Did a search on Anti-Cable here, nothing came about so this topic should not be redundant.

I would just try bluejean cable stuff. Didn't you see stereophile recommended speaker cable include radioshack 12gage stuff? you think i am kidding? I see bluejean cable as an upgrade to the RS stuff

I bought into the hype and ordered a pair. I thought they sounded about the same as my old cheap Nordost Blue Heaven cables. I kept them on for a few months and then tried some Cardas Golden Reference cables which I got an amazing deal on...the Golden Reference cables sounded MUCH, MUCH better than the anti-cables, which are now buried somewhere deep in my unused-audio-stuff closet.

I like 'em

I like how the anti-cables match up in my system. These have more resolution then the Kimber 8tc cables I had. The bass is tighter on them but it doesn't slam as well as the 8tc.

There are many cables to choose from but from my experience with these two, the Kimbers might be a better match for you ( sweet, airy, nice tone, more bass, more dynamic).

I agree with chesebert. Since you have a huge budget for what's probably the least important interconnect in the system, it can't hurt to try a handful of Blue Jeans Cable's Belden 5000 series cable. If you can fit it, try their 10 AWG, bare wire or terminated by them (which costs more). At $0.38 to $0.79 cents per foot, you can't say no!

Anti-Cable Proponent

Contrary to the experience Scrith describes, I have had excellent results with both the Paul Speltz Anti-Cable (w/my speakers) and the Anti-ICs (between my maxed-out, RAM-modded Samsung HD841 and Meier HeadFive/Darkvoice 336i/G&W T2.6F head amps).

The Speltz cables--to my ears--are exceptionally neutral, clean, open and detailed, and have replaced JPS Superconductor, Kimber KCAG and AudioQuest cable in my various system(s). Since installing the Anti-ICs about a year ago, I haven't gotten even the slightest urge to upgrade my "critical" (source-to-head amp) interconnect. For the money, I think they are well worth it. They come with a money-back guarantee, too.

Utep, are you sure you are not confusing bass "slam" with bass "bloat" from the 8TC?

Maybe my choice of words was not correct. With one source, the Kimber's sounded very nice. When I switched sources, the Kimber's sounded somewhat "bloated" in the bass. For me, it's all about system matching.

Thanks for correcting me.

Edit: btw. As you probably know, both BJC and Paul Speltz have a good return policy and both are pretty inexpensive. I'd try both. Good luck.

I think I will be going with Blue Jeans because the name is so much nicer

Cheesebert, I know about the Ratshack recommendation. They said it was sonically ok.

Anyway, to conclude

I did not like the Transparent Music Wave cable, it was bloated and muddy sounding.

I like the Analysis Plus Oval 9 cable. I think its a very honest and neutral sounding cable, in fact its almost identical to my current silver solid core though the Analysis's bass extends a bit more. No point in buying it then The cable is very striking looking too.

I like the Clearaudio modified cable. But then it is expensive being made in Germany and all that. This system adds some forwardness to my already laidback system. I suspect this cable is colouring my system somewhat so i'm going to listen to it some more before returning it.
