Cables for E-MU 1212M

Soon, there will be an influx of Head-Fiers with the E-MU 1212M, thanks to the recent $99 deal from Musician's Friend. Let's come up with some cable solutions. All brand suggestions are welcome (please mention price ranges, too). Since the E-MU 1212M only comes with 1/4" mono outputs, here are some possible connections that might be desirable:

1. Card to computer speakers. This will most likely need a Y-cable with two 1/4" mono connectors to one 1/8" stereo connector.

2. Card to pre-amplifier (or integrated amp, receiver, etc.). This will need two cables each with a 1/4" mono connector to a RCA connector.

3. Card to monitors. This will need two regular "instrument" cables, with 1/4" mono connectors on both ends.

I've e-mailed Blue Jeans Cable about the cost of creating a solution for #1. They plan to use Belden 1509C cable, and the final price will be $25 plus $2 per additional foot (ex. 6 feet = $25 + $2*6 = $37).

Why dont you just buy the adapters for a little over 1 dollar?...

edit: Yes, I just got an emu-1212m too..

An adapter is just another electrical connection that can degrade sound quality. Admittedly, not by much, but enough that it matters to some people.

Plus, the adapters mentioned in the E-MU 1212M thread only convert to RCA. This would require an additional adapter or Y-cable to convert to 1/8" stereo.

For the sake of later comparison, I've purchased the Hosa 2 1/4" to 1/8" Y-cable and a pair of those ART 1/4" to RCA adapters everyone seems to be picking up.

If these work well enough, I'll likely try the BJC upgrade.

keep in mind the 1212m outputs are symmetrical so no problem pairing them with a symmetrical amp/preamp if thats your choice

(symmetrical 1/4" mono plug = stereo plug
tip =+signal ring=-signal )

Yeah, the balanced outputs are a definite future upgrade consideration, but right now I'm afraid it would negate the good deal on the sound card.

I considered the same options and at first wondered if the adapters would cause some issues, but they work fine. I think it's better to get the BLC with adapters rather than the Belden 1505's, especially considering it's use in computer audio.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I already have a pair of LC-1s, so I've been a little hesitant to pay the same price over again for a custom cable.

I also forgot that I have a decent 1/8" to two RCA Y-cable which could work with the 1/4" to RCA adapters to connect to my computer speakers.

The Hosa cable and ART adapters arrived yesterday and the box to the Hosa Y-cable had already been sliced open... A little perturbing, but since it was only $5, I guess I'll live with it.
