just like to throw this out to anyone who is a concert-goer.

so what shows you'd like to see or planning on seeing?

so far i got tix to see:

Cat Power -- Commodore Ballroom -- 29 Nov
Joanna Newsom -- Saint Andrews Wesley Church -- 5 Dec

still need to get tix for:

Sarah Slean -- The Stanley Theatre -- 18 Dec

so going anywhere? discuss.

Planning to attend three or four Mozart concerts put on by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra come January, but nothing other than that.

Ah, found them:

January 18th: Mozart - The Violin
Violin Concerto No. 2, K.211
Violin Concerto No. 3, K.216
Symphony No. 39, K.543

January 21st: Mozart - Sinfonia Concertante
String Quintet, K.174
Violin Concerto No. 4, K.218
Sinfonia concertante, K. 364

January 25th: Mozart - Gran Partita
Gran Partita, K. 361
Violin Concerto No. 5, K.219

January 27th: Mozart - Requiem
Clarinet Concerto, K.622
Requiem, K.626

Should be a good month! Probably won't get out to all 4, but any 2 or 3 of them should be great.

Who needs live music when you've got headphones?

Not much of note except Madredeus on 1 Dec, and after that I'll have to wait till March for Yossou N'Dour, Chucho Valdes and the San Francisco Jazz Collective. I'll have a series of classical concerts to tide me over though.

Might try to drop into a little hole in the wall venue nearby for The Hold Steady on Thursday night. Gotta work the next morning though and the place will be freakin packed, so it probably won't turn into much.

Unless this is a joke, answer your rhetorical question by going to see live music.

I've been waiting for Ween to post a tour date in Toronto. That's really the only band I've been keeping an active eye out for.

I'll be watching the TSO at some point over the winter and will likely catch some local jazz or rock on a whim.

There aren't too many good shows left in the year for Cleveland, but I definitely plan on seeing Mr. Lif December tenth. I've been waiting to be available for one of his shows for about two years now.

I'm looking forward to seeing Emily Haines in Boston in a few months. She's supposed to be fantastic live.

That should be a nice show; I'd really like to see her.

I'm planning on seeing...
Keane (early 2007)
Shawn Colvin (not sure when she's touring the US)
Medeski Martin & Wood (whenever that will be - just missed them this year)
And in the summer, the usual suspects...
Sting
Chicago

Ween's manager Pat has said numerous times on their forum that unless they plan a number of shows in Canada, it's not worth it for them to cross the border b/c of some border/work permit regulations that have apparently changed since 9/11. To be honest I think that's probably an excuse for some other reason that they don't want to cross. There are plenty of bands that play the same size shows they do that certainly find it worthwhile. There really hasn't been any change at all in the number of shows here in the past number of years, and there would be if what she says is true. Anyway, Ween played Buffalo in July and it was a great show. It's not a long drive.

I'd normally have something to report on the live music front, but right now is the end of the busy concert season usually for me, and this year's no exception. I saw Mouse on Mars a couple weeks ago, though, and they blew the roof off the place.
