Worth it?

sorry for repost

Hey everyone,
I've been using a pair of UE super.fi 5 with my ipod for a while now, and I do like them quite a bit (a little uncomfortable, but what are you gonna do)
I am thinking about asking for another pair for Christmas. I was looking at the Shure E500's, but I was wondering if for $500, they are a huge leap above my super.fi 5s (I liked the super.fi 5s over the E4Cs). Unfortunately, I don't really have any way of hearing them before I buy 'em. If they are a good deal better, I think that's what I'd like to get (the microphone thing sounds awesome!). If there isn't a huge difference I might consider a larger pair for home use because I haven't seen any reason to replace my Sennheiser PX100s until now (don't laugh, I love those things).
Any advice anyone has to offer would help me out a lot (I realize certain people have different opinions in these matters)

For that money (and if you're prepared to pay $500) you should consider UE 5pro - the custom IEM or Westone ES2

And yeah, the difference between super.fi 5 and E500 or the ones i mentioned are pretty significant.. Be warned that they have very different sound signature as well

Probably true, but I haven't heard the S.Fi5Pro. However, if I were to start from scratch as an IEM noob and had $500 to spend on current available, in production IEMs, I'd get the E500. I'm slightly biased though.

If you like the S.fi5Pro, then why don't you stay on the UE boat and consider their UE5c custom IEM as jdimitri hinted at? Also, the Triple.fi10Pro is just around the corner. You might as well wait a bit longer... That said, the T.fi10Pro probably won't be available in time for Christmas though.

There's a lot of existing "literature" regarding the $550 UE5c ('entry-level' UE customs) and the E500 on these forums. The search tool is your door to near-infinite headphone knowledge.

I took the same route SF5P --> E500 and don't regret it one bit. They're MUCH more comfortable too. Look around, E500s can be had for ~$380 + shipping.

The ue-5c or ue-5 pro are the customs but a great reccomendation (ue-5c or es2) if you have the extra money.
