Back in the day when the Max was king and under $2K. I really enjoyed listening to this amp (pre restructsure). Wondering how the new Home and crazy expensive Max series sound?

I bought these puppies just before Christmas and they have been a revelation. I can't tell you how much they suit my listening tastes. I love close listening with lots of treble and tight...

It's very small player, so I like it. I have Clip+ since Christmas and I'm very satisfied!

First of all let me say this is one of my favourite BA driver earphones I have ever heard. That said, being a basshead, these didn't deliver in the bass department - I can't deny the fact...

I've had this card for quite a while now, and I have to say its a really nice card - a huge step-up to my on-board motherboard's audio. At first I do have to admit, it didn't feel like the D1...

Long story short: These earbuds, shouldn't ever be bought, when they come free in your iPod package, its fine to look at them, and try them on. If you know someone wanting to buy these,...

lex ... welcome back, and your question is a good one - one I have pondered as well, since I've owned a '97 Max, 2001 Max with S.E.s, and currently have a 2004 Blockhead (last version available in the old line) with S.E.s.
My sneaky suspiscion is that the current line is, in fact superior. I base this on also having a HeadRoom Micro portable amp, which just destroys all it's predecessors, and is easily the equal of anything else around.
So, it is with great forboding and trepidation that I carry my beloved BlockHead to the upcoming December 2 SoFL Meet (beware, that is one nasty thread) to do battle with Tyll's latest.
Nice to have you back, man.

Hello Lex,
The new HR Max and Home line of amps are indeed quite good and among the best solid state headphone being made today. One of the really great things about the Headroom design is the fact one does not need to actually buy the "crazy expensive" Max amp to experience most of its sonic marvels. One can get a Headroom Desktop amp with a Max module and a Desktop Power Supply for substantially less money, in fact about 50% less. Throw in the 20% trade-in discount for returning customers and you'll have yourself one fine sounding amp for a very nice price.
I went the Desktop amp with the Max module route myself and I continue to be amazed at just how good that amp is. Every detail and nuance of a recording is clearly revealed and I'm rather sure that it is due to the presence of the Max module since I also have another Desktop amp without a Max module and while it sound quite pleasant, that magic just isn't there.
