Hardly suprising and I don't think many people are holding out for SED anymore. Toshiba's CEO said himself that even when it arrives it won't be targetted at the mainstream market. Cost being the reason.

I'm about to buy a Pioneer 50" for US$4300 , which is a good deal in UK with 5 year guarantee.

Your never going to be a 499 or 599 42 inch tv for sale at major stores.
Just like anything, the prices come down to a point, then new models come out, and can keep it at that price.

Thats why you can't go into your local Best Buy, and purchase a tv thats 3 years old, for 300 bucks, when it was 2600 at one point

Wow! I have a Sony SXRD rear projection and I like it more than any LCD/Plasma/DLP I've seen to date for my viewing distances. I'm amazed they'd stop selling them.

It's unfortunate as the sxrd rptv's are very nice and aren't all that expensive. That being said, it's not a real surprise demand for lcd hdtv's is through the roof and they have higher profit margins.

My experience is the opposite, haven't yet seen any rear projection TV that I truly like. But I have to admit, I've never seen any of the top rptv models either.

My grandpa has a 50" (not sure which model) that he purchased within the past year and I think it is one of the better looking rear projecting sets I've seen. That being said it does not stack up to the XBR3, XBR4 or V2500's IMO.

Such a shame about that Pioneer news. But I hear they're not actually exitting but just outsourcing some bits of the panel to Panasonic. Hopefully the quality is maintained and lets Pioneer be more competitive, meaning better prices for us (?).

Nice to see my thread from two years ago again lol

I'm happily watching from a Pioneer 507XD these days. It's stunning, it really is. I don't understand some people which say they prefer LCD? Are they jealous or what? There is no comparison.

I've had my 46" lcd for almost a year now and there's no way in hell i'm going back to SD! lol.... The best $900 i've spent ever.
