WiFi is built in. I can access the wii store but the news and forecast channels are not active yet. You just choice your WiFi and enter the security code (if you use one) using a virtual keyboard you aim the remote at. It's got force feedback to help.
I don't think it's gimmicky at all. Obviously the sports package is a freebie to just demonstrate the controls and won't be used once you purchase real sports titles but even with this sports package, the movements are so real. You do a full golf swing, punching in boxing, swinging in tennis and baseball. It's very believable and fun. I can see having a few people over, a pitcher of beer, and playing a few rounds of bowling. It got some other features that looked like it was geared more towards kids but is actually kind of cool. You make a character of yourself that's in the fun Nintendo cartoon look. These characters are then used in the sport package and I guess other Nintendo brand games. It saves your skill level for each character and can also save it on the remote so if you go to a friends house that has wii, you now have brought your player info on the remote. So if you want to go bowling, you don't have to create a new character. You can also have them travel through the internet to share characters too. Haven't had a chance to try either of these features yet. You can also buy older Nintendo games that work with the remote. Some won't work with the remote, so you'd also need to a get classic controller or a game cube controller. I might get Donkey Kong and Super Mario World. The wii also communicates with the DS but I'm not sure what it does. We are planning to get one for Christmas. Edit: it does have surround sound. |
Thanks, that helps. I should have specified good surround sound, Pro Logic kinda sucks imo.
