MDR-NC022 sound quality

Just wondering if anyone commented on the NC022 that comes with the walkmans? Apparently, I noticed that the sound quality is not really that good compared to the EX90, or am I wrong?

you're not wrong, I used the nc022 when I bought the walkman x for about a month and I didnt like the sound quality, it wasnt terrible but it sounded too bright (or cold I dont know the exact word for it, too much treble, little bass) for my taste and had a tiny soundstage, then I bought the sennheiser cx300-II and I just dont use the sony anymore.

I own both the CX300 II and the MDR NC022 and think the exact opposite! The Sony's are a little harder to fit but once snug give a very rich and satisfying sound with a nicely extended bass. The CX300's are OK but IMO sound no-where near as good as the Sony's. The CX300's have a brighter but slightly tizzy sound and the bass is not as well extended.

To better the Sony's you'll pobably need to spend in excess of £50-£60 on something like a pair of Shures.

i too was wondering how others feel about these bundled 'phones. they came with my walkman x, and i haven't listened to them much. i slightly prefer the sound (and much prefer the fit) of my klipsch image s4's, although they both sound pretty similar to me. the s4's have a little "boomier" bass, and a little crisper sound.

i don't find the mdr-nc022's "unlistenable," and i wouldn't be too upset if i had to use them for a full day. in fact, the worst thing about them is surely the uneven lengths between L and R. i'd say they are good for a low-end headphone overall, better than most that come bundled with portable players. as standalones, i wouldn't be upset if i paid $50 bucks for them (not considering noise cancelling function which only works with the player).

i mostly keep them around as one of my many backup sets, and for the built-in noise cancelling with the x-series, which i find is worth it in certain situations like on planes and other environments with loud white noise (until the pressure gives me a headache).

now I really believe in burn-in! I gave those a good listen before I left them to burn-in then I left them for about 10 hours driven through my sansa clip+ and the sound has changed drastically already! I'll leave them to burn-in for a few days then give my final opinion.

I had used the ex082 that came along with my sony a726 extensively & they were very good phones. They sounded big,warm, very nice treble & quite open but they were not loud with my walkman & lacked body/substance. So i got a pair of cx300II.........& all i can say is that these are quite poor. Very harsh highs, narrow soundstage, ok mids,bass quantity is more but the quality is just average although it is quite louder than ex082. Cx300II sounds better with the touch3g than the sony but with ex082 the walkman was very good if not loud.
Try using a thin layer of cloth on the tips of cx300II & it'll control the overly unclear/harsh treble

i have about 200 hours burn in and the bass could match up the atrios(atrios hit much deeper though) and hit harder and lower den other mid end iem i have heard. Clarity is average and the highs are harsh but nt as harsh when i first heard it.
