I am not 100% sure because I have not taken it apart but I would assume there is no soldering, it's just the cable cover that's different.

Sleeving: Headphile writes:
Introducing the BlackMax cable. This is probably the best bang for the buck I offer. It's a cross between BlackCoral and BlackGold, leaning more towards the latter. Uses both fine 99.99% silver and copper magnet wire for the signal (not silver plated copper), and the BlackCoral ground return. Left and right runs are kept as separate cables (when applicable).

For sleeving I've decided on the softer, more flexible, less microphonic and durable headphone sleeving. Any RCA termination cables are the ones used in the pics. I've switched to these cables in my personal system.

For headphone cables, a 6" portion of BlackGold sleeving is used near the plug to distinguish BlackMax. While it would certainly be gorgeous to use this for the whole cable, that would make it stiffer and microphonic, cost more while being less durable, not the greatest idea IMO.

I still can't believe that Skylab sold off the red palm. Thos were my favorite looking darths to date.
I am also a student, although at the moment, I am in between studies. So I have (more) money available for these kind of things. As of next september I'm going back to college, then there will be no extra money. So this will practically be it for the next few years.

Once you're done studying, and you have a decent paying job, I'm sure there will be a point that you can affort a pair. Just be patient

For those who want a V3 Darth Beyer but no patience to wait!

The Headphile deal page has a special-wood V3 Darth for same price as if you ordered one in a higher-grade wood.

And NO waiting!

If I was to completely honest, they sound ok, The highs are much clearer and cripser and the mids are more forward compared to standard Beyers, BUT to be honest, even though i love the bass, im finding the low end overpowering, even with all the eq settings normal, it seems to overshadow everything else. Maby its just me, but i actually prefer my standard Dt 770's! Ebay here we come, ouch!

Don't be so hasty. Have you tried plugging any of the holes (there's 4 small openings, 2 are there normally, and 2 from the removal of the single-sided crossover cable). Plugging the holes helps tame the bass. I'm actually not even a fan of the 770s in any configuration, but I'd hate for you to give up on them so soon.

I shall give it a try and see what the outcome is like, cheers.
